Help, save, whatever.
|
The Indians' pitching has been awesome, but the Jays have been missing pitches that usually they would crush for HRs. Jays pitching have been just as impressive but it seems like if they make one mistake and miss their location the Indians hit it for a homer.
If the Indians do get past the Jays I can't see them doing much against the NL team.

Circumstances apparently prevented Jose Bautista (and several other prominent Blue Jays) from talking to the media after tonight's loss.

I get that he was pulled because he's a lefty, but I still wouldn't yank a guy who's actually swinging the bat well that night. Especially for Upton.

I am not sure anyone will get past the Cubs. But, the Indians are 6-0 against Boston and Toronto in the playoffs. I'd give them better odds of beating Chicago in a best of 7 than I would have Texas, Toronto, Boston or Baltimore.

I will not be sad either to see him leave but he better not sign in the AL East division.

I don't think anyone in the AL East would want him. He clearly can't play the field anymore despite what he tells himself. Boston probably would be willing to sign him as a DH, but I don't think his ego let's him be a DH.

It wouldn't shock me if Jose came back, I don't think he's going to find the market is all that kind to him. If you can get him on a one or two year deal I think you do it. I doubt anyone offers him more than 4 years and $15 million per.

I can appreciate what he's done for this team, so I'll be a little sad.

Can't say I will either. Not making that catch was a critical error that just cannot happen in post season baseball and I dont' think he is a good fit as a full time DH anyway. Jose can still crush mistakes, but he's not that effective a hitter anymore, not IMO anyway.
Great Jay and put his name up on the Ring of Honor one day, but his time has come. Little said its ending like this but such is life in pro sports.

I can't. For everything he does, he goes out and ruins it with his mouth and actions. He's a less successful version of Theo Fleury.
When someone hits a home run like he did last year, then spends the entire offseason yapping about how he's been underpaid for years and he won't be taking any hometown discount, it really takes the shine off of it.
I bet he'll be yapping about how the Jays wronged him and held him back within two weeks of signing with a new team this winter.

You really see a lot of big changes?
Shapiro brought in Liriano, Happ, and re-signed Estrada.
Sanchez and Stroman are under team control, as well as Osuna and Biagini. Trading any of those solid young arms doesn't seem like something Shapiro would do.
I don't see any changes to the rotation because that would be pretty stupid IMO.
He needs to rebuild the bullpen around Osuna and Biagini though.
Trading Martin would also be a dumb move, because he has a lot to do with how good the pitching staff is IMO.
Travis and Pillar are under team control and trading Tulo or Donaldson just for the sake of change wouldn't be smart.
Shapiro also brought in Upton and re-signed Smoak.
They've also said they plan to offer EE a fair deal in hopes of bringing him back.
I dunno, I guess he could blow it up but that doesn't make a lot of sense right now.
Seems more likely they shore up the bullpen, fill in the vacant outfield spots from within and take another shot at the post season with the squad they have while continuing to restock the system.

That and no more Dickey or Thole
Of course that change already happened a month ago, unofficially.
Also, no more Saunders.

Yeah I expect someone will give EE a bigger offer than the Jays will. And at his age he's gotta take the biggest deal possible, this is his last chance to cash in.

I will be interested to see if the Jays open up the purse strings for the bull pen this off season.
There are some strong free agent relievers/closers available like Chapman, Jansen, Melancon etc. but they won't come cheap that's for sure. Chapman (despite his dirtbag antics off the field) is a pretty big need for the Jays. A lefty power closer/stopper would be huge for this team.

I honestly would like to see the Jays move Travis. I don't think he's long for the major leagues from an injury perspective and I think his value is probably as high now as it will ever be.
The guy is a good hitter, but he will be moved to the outfield sooner rather than later at which point his numbers become less impressive. He hits very well for a second basemen, but just decent for an outfielder. Could easily be replaced.
With respect to Pillar, I'm fine giving him some more time. His defence definitely dazzles me, but he's part of the problem as to why the Jays can't get over that hump. You can't have a Center Fielder hitting .250 with no power, who can't bunt or bunt or run the bases. This guys swings at every single pitch. Might be acceptable for a guy that hits 40 homers, it's not for a guy that hits less than ten. CF is a position in baseball that generally drives a lot of offence. He needs to get it together at the plate.

The Jays won't be opening their purse strings for anyone this offseason. Rogers is having a terrible year, and losing money on hockey hand over fist.
They may resign Edwin because I think Toronto would explode if they don't, but that will come at the expense of not signing anyone else.
