Pure speculation on my part, but I think we hear who the front runners are by the end of the NHL Draft Combine (June 4th).

From his wikipedia page:
Green also has won over $345,000 in poker tournaments
Poker playing badass. Sold.
Also, 14 year NHL veteran that was drafted 23rd overall. Still no idea on his coaching style.

Would be pretty crazy if the Flames landed a number of guys surrounded by buzz to fill the ranks of head and associate coaching positions to form a real solid coaching group.

I also play poker(no winnings just loses so far), let's get Green, maybe he can coach players poker as well.

That's where I am with any of the choices. It's hard to gauge any of the potential options when you're not in the room to see what their philosophies are.
Carlyle is likely the best option of the coaches that have experience, while Green I suppose is the best of the green options.
That's also why I was entirely on the fence with Hartley until he started coaching. He did a great job with what he had.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be on my toes at the Flames poker charity classic... if he gets hired.

Green has not been a head coach in the NHL before, therefore:
- cannot be called a retread
- cannot be labeled Old School
- opposition fan bases cannot highlight his previous NHL failures to us
- can be package up as a fresh, innovative, new NHL hire
All of the above us what we Flames fans fear and desire the most in our deepest darkest thoughts. Therefore, should we land Green, we will be gity.

I would have assumed the hunt for a coach would have died down for a little while due to BT's mother passing away. Although, I suppose his work ethic is pretty legendary. Perhaps he's one of those individuals that needs to get back to work to keep his mind busy.

I'm not going to lie and say I've been following Travis Green's post NHL career as a coach religiously. However I frequent the enemies message boards and Canucks fans have been talking for a few years now how their young players rave about him and how good Utica has been under him. It's not like in Calgary where some Flames fans got snookered into thinking Troy Ward was a great coach because he talks a good game on radio interviews. We are talking about a coach that's getting the job done behind the bench and maximizing player talent he's been given to work with. This isn't a guy that has been gifted any caching jobs as he's paid his dues as he went from retirement into coaching for six years now and his one and only season of head coach in the WHL he got the Winterhawks to the memorial cup. He's created a winning culture in Utica in three seasons including getting the team to Calder Cup. Heck he even got Sven Baertschi playing a point a game in the AHL after being mired in a slump with Adirondack. If a GM is truly looking for a guy that maybe the next young, up and coming coaching star I don't see a better looking candidate than Travis Green as there's no smoke and mirrors here as he's simply a very good young coach.

I know it is unlikely but what if Green is brought in as head coach with Carlyle as his associate? Similar to Cooper-Bowness in Tampa or Boucher-Crawford in Ottawa?

Maybe the only way I would be comfortable with Carlyle on the Flames bench.

I think the fear there is Green might not feel comfortable/perform to his full capabilities if he thinks his possible replacement is standing next to him on the bench every night
