USA-Portugal most viewed soccer match in the history of the United States.
How many viewers? Well 18 million sounds like a lot until you realize that it's a) about the same as a normal night of The Big Bang Theory, and b) it's less than 10% of the country.
During the CBC broadcast the commentator said it was the most watched event for a US national team in any sport.
But according to this the 2010 gold medal game had 27 million viewers and the 1980 Miracle on Ice had 32 million.

It was 25 million if you include Univision.

While not near the totals scored by the N.F.L. playoffs or, certainly, the Super Bowl, the American audience for the World Cup game on Sunday easily eclipsed the N.B.A. finals this year, which averaged 15.5 million viewers, as well as the 2013 World Series, which averaged 14.9 million viewers. The N.H.L. playoffs are not even remotely as popular as the World Cup, having averaged only five million viewers this season.
ESPN reported Monday that the game was its most-watched event outside of N.F.L. or college football. But it even rivaled the audience for the B.C.S. championship game on ESPN last January. That game averaged 25.7 million viewers, only counting the ESPN numbers. Sunday’s World Cup game peaked in viewership on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. when it reached almost 23 million viewers.
either way that is a sh*t load of Yanks watching a soccer game.
What's sad is that some say this is boring and yet love baseball

5. Ghana beats Portugal, Portugal beats Ghana: The presence of two contradictory realities coexisting in the same timeline would cause a disintegration of the linear progression of time as we know it, creating an infinite plurality of realities in which the United States both wins and loses the World Cup.
As someone who watched his first match ever this past Saturday... What are the chances of Canada qualifying for a World Cup in 2022? Or even in our lifetimes?

They wouldn't play on artificial turf, would they? I don't think there are any grass stadiums left in Canada are there?
The BJs are converting the Skydome turf to grass by 2017 which is partly why the Argos are being asked to leave.
They could install temporary grass at BC Place and Olympic Stadium like they did in '94.
The issue with BC Place is the logistics of dealing with the Lion's schedule in June. Frankly, I don't see Vancouver hosting with Seattle so close and a better venue.
