If I have pre-ordered online from Best Buy is there any way to be able to pick it up in store to make sure I get it on launch day? Since the launch is on a Friday I'm a little concerned that if I don't recieve it that day I won't get it until the Monday... A little petty, I know, but I plan on doing a tonne of gaming that weekend and it would suck if I didn't get it until the following week...

AFAIK, there is no way to pickup an online pre-order in the store. Best Buy/Future Shop will only guarentee shipping on the Friday, so it is quite possbile that online pre-orders will not be received until the following week.
Best bet would be to give their customer service a call, and see if they can transfer it to a store, or what your options would be.

Nope, you have to wait until it ships.

Xbone 180s director of product planning was surprised by the negative reaction to their product and states the bad press is purely a result of a misunderstanding, adding all the digital "features" would return once the time is right and everyone has 'calmed down'.
http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/06/micros...ction-3952471/
Title should be changed to something other than 'listens to consumers'.

"Apology tour?" Seems a bit much but interesting to see it in the Herald.
http://www.calgaryherald.com/technol...663/story.html
The presentation was apparently the first stop of an apology tour for Microsoft, which originally said the successor to the Xbox 360 would be required to go online every 24 hours and limit how users could access previously purchased games. A month later, citing feedback from consumers, Microsoft Corp. announced it decided not to implement such restrictions.
Microsoft’s atypical about-face continued last month when the Redmond, Wash., company declared that an updated version of its Kinect sensor, which detects motion and voice, would no longer be required to operate the Xbox One. That turnabout came after the company, at events like the Electronic Entertainment Expo, defended how integral Kinect was to the Xbox One.
“I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I’m getting a PS4 and not an Xbox,” said Jeff Lane, a gamer from Reno, Nev., who paid $100 for VIP access to the GameStop Expo. “I know Microsoft has changed course on a lot of their unfounded policies since they announced the Xbox One, but what’s to stop them from just implementing them next year after the console is out?”

Nothing, they already have plans to do exactly that according to their director of product planning.

And to that, I say good. Once I learned more about the features, I wanted them, and I was pretty disappointed when they were removed.
Besides, if it's a year away, that's plenty of time to implement some of the other product suggestions (like an offline mode).

I thought the XB1 sounded kinda cool out the gate. I prefer Sony gaming, but I was impressed that Microsoft was coming at this generation with some stones. Then they back-tracked so hard it slowly became less and less of a step forward imo. I hope they re-add everything they took away. They'll lose many users if they do, but they'll have a system that might be able to progress forward and innovate.

I don't think adding the new features back in automatically equals loss of users. But they have to be marketed effectively AND there needs to be some consideration for the install base who do want/need to use the console offline... in other words, offline mode. (I will hammer on an offline mode until the day it happens.)

curious, does the size of a console really even matter?? seems like a pretty useless/negligible attribute to look at when comparing the consoles.
i'm not planning on buying till fall 2014, but i think my main criteria will come down to 3 key things:
1) how does a game released on both consoles (ie. madden25, fifa 14, etc) play on each, and what yields the better experience
2) price (i realize the xbox is more expensive, but if the kinect pipeline of types of games/functoins available make it appealing then it naturally offsets the price delta)
3) unforeseen technical issues that arise over the first year of the console (ie. the xbox360 ring of death issues as an example)

^ LOL, if you're looking for something practical you should come back to this thread in a year. The months leading up to a new console launch is all hype, pouring over the tidbits of leaked details, and arm chair analysis to the extreme.
Hell, Microsoft has changed their business plan and messages so many times who the hell knows where it'll be in a year.
Honestly though, my concern with the system is the sheer amount of hot air the thing has to dump through the top. With the hands on-time I had with the system, that really stood out for me. Who knows if they'll fix that for the actual launch versions.

Any reference for this? Curious to know how much it puts out/if the fans are terribly loud.

I will let you know.
IMO Madden on the current gen feels dated, think they did focus on the next gen. The Madden series was one of the better series out of the gate last generation so hopefully that trend continues.

I did read something on what differences are in the next gen Fifa but can't find it right now (blocked).
Not really worried too much about not being to put something on top of the console. I don't put anything on top of anything as it is as even cable/dish receivers get quite hot if something is on top of it.
What I'm most intrigued about with the new XBox is how it really functions as the center of the entertainment system. If it is very well executed it may be a very defining factor compared to the PS4. It's one of the things I've read a few times...if you just want games then PS4 is likely the choice but as a central console you'll want the Xbox.
But I'm in the same boat as many....I'll wait and see what happens over the 8-12 months after release before making any sort of decision. Now if someone happens to get me one or the other before then I won't be turning it down.
