Seems like a good spot for retail or something.

Another one that's been posted on SSP is not here is Brad Lamb's next project. Sales brochure is pretty bad though. Whoever made it is either very unfamiliar with Calgary or intentionally misleading prospective buyers.

Also on SSP:
A previous version of 3 Eau Claire
I like it, even though it looks a bit like the Amoco logo.
A look at the 7-tower development near Eau Claire:
Astoria starting up again, 10th Ave at 9th St.

I agree that the brochure was very poor quality, but the only factual error I saw was that the "Victoria Park" designation is north of 9th Ave. Which is weird, but not especially damning since the property is actually in Vic Park. Did I miss something?

I believe you're talking about the location where the proposed Curtis Block development is going, along with a proposed hotel. There are a few buildings on the block that are still being used (Vietnam restaurant, Arby's and the office building on the SW corner of the block) but the SE corner is indeed a boarded up building with parking lots beside it to the north and west.

If so, that's actually between 11th and 12th and beside 1st St E rather than MacLeod Trail. That site had a retail proposal called First South which would have used the full block but has been stalled/cancelled because the city wanted more density than was proposed.

No i meant between 12 ave and 13 ave sw and between macleod trail and 1 st se. All that's really there is a boarded up "do not enter" building and a vietnamese restaurant.
A large block between basically macleod north and macleod south i would think commercial development would be all over that.

You did. The Victoria Park Stampede LRT station got moved from 15th Ave to 11th (which conveniently/fradulently makes it two blocks closer to the condos they're selling), and Alura is on the wrong side of McLeod trail.

OK, that is the location of Curtis Block which sounds like it may start at some point. It includes retail and office space. There is also a 20 story hotel proposal for part of that block which I'm fairly sure won't happen.

Curtis Block, which is a working title as taken from the heritage building that was demolished in 2009 because the City's Transportation department is stupid.
Office and retail.

Anyone know how the return would have been on those places?

Article from 2013/10/22 says 2014.

In short time, the B.C.-based grocery chain will have three stores in Calgary — the first opening Saturday in Seton, followed by Panorama next Friday, and Walden on November 8. A fourth store on Heritage Drive and Macleod Trail is slated for 2014.

I really, honestly, truly feel that that thing is just awful. Hope it never gets built.

Reminds me of the previously abandoned building on 10th st and 5th ave SW, where the Catholic School Board now occupies.

I sort of like it. The curves make me think this is what a Gaudi designed apartment would look like if he was working now. If it gets built I think it'll grow on people.
Of course, I'm sure they'd build a 7 storey square condo building with a cream exterior if the city asked nicely...
