So I have thrown together a quick jaunt to Norwich in a few weeks. The main goal is to show off my baby boy to my family, have him meet his great-grandparents, attend one of said grandparent's 90th birthday party, swig some ale and relax.
Is it bad that I scheduled my flights to ensure that I had the most Premier League matches possible?
I'll be up at 0200 (0900 GMT) when the Norwich City ticket office opens on Monday to desperately try and get some Manchester United tickets as soon as they go on sale for that home game. If I am fortunate enough to get through on the phone, it will cost me £20 extra per ticket to become a "super member" to be able to buy them that day (otherwise they will be sold out). It'll be worth it though.
I'll be applying for tickets to go to the away match at Stoke the week after, which should be a fun coach trip across England with my wife and my Dad. The ticket agent seemed to think that I had a reasonable chance of success, depending on the allocation of seats that Norwich takes for that one.
And then Wigan at home shouldn't be too hard to get tickets for (especially if I am a "super member" after successfully getting those Manchester Unites tickets).
Even though I visit every few years, I never imagined that I would be there for part of this season. I was only just there last spring and managed to see the home game against Bristol and then took the coach up to Hull for an away game. At the time they were sitting near the top of the Championship and cautious optimism was abound. Fast-forward a year and, with any luck, I'll be able to see some Premier League football live for the first time since 1994 (I wasn't visiting during the 2004-2005 debacle).
Just sharing my excitement. Most people around me don't understand. Even if you guys probably don't care, at least you "get it".

Arsenal must look at buying a CM now or run the risk at running Arteta, Ramsey and Song pretty thin.
Haven't you heard? Diaby is due back any day now. LANS...

As I mentioned earlier on in the season, I'd love to see him play in Arteta's current role and let Arteta give Ramsey a break.

Well my 2:00am attempt at getting tickets for Norwich vs. Manchester United was unsuccessful. I tried calling repeatedly for 45 minutes until the voice message changed to say that they were sold out. The web site was also not functioning very well. I read later this morning that there were a couple hundred people queued up outside the ticket office.
It was a long shot, and would have been nice to have gone. But things are looking good for Stoke away and Wigan at home.
The coffee machine and I will be well acquainted today!

When I was attempting to get tickets last year I was advised to contact a local support club. I don't know if Norwich even has one around here, but if they do they usually can apply to get tickets that are saved for support clubs. When I was trying to go to a game at Anfield last year I contacted the Liverpool support club, but unfortunately the date had passed for which they had to apply by. Might be worth a shot.

I'll have to keep that in mind for next time, although I'm not sure if they have a supporters group that buys group tickets in Norwich. Unfortunately they are completely sold out this time around. I even had someone "on the inside" trying to pull strings - my cousin is a long-time steward at Carrow Road, and even his seniority couldn't get me any preferential treatment.
Because it is a marquee match, and the stadium only holds 26,000, they were a hot commodity. Never mind - I'll have to locate a pub and watch it from there, although I will keep my ear to the ground for any last-minute private sales. Realistically, the game vs. Stoke will likely be the most important in the standings anyway, although the thought of witnessing a home win (or even a draw) vs. Manchester United would have been something special. But the odds don't favour it.
I don't know where I pulled that result from, but I had no idea it was so long ago!
Lets be havin ya!
So you made me dig it up: Norwich have as many wins already this season as they did that season (which was the last time they were in the Premier League, 2004-05) with 7. They need 4 more points to reach 33 and match the season-long total they accumulated that year. 4 of their 7 wins came in April and May (including the one against Man Utd) in a late push to stay up, before getting shelled 6-0 at Fulham on the last day of the season. A win would have kept them up.
Hopefully things keep going favourably for them as this season would hurt a lot more if the wheels fell off. Being able to watch every game live was unheard of in 2005, so my emotional investment is higher than ever.

Norwich have been good value this season. Very entertaining games and Grant Holt is a fun player to watch.

Obviously I agree. With the Manchester City game aside, I can honestly say that they have been "in" every game they have played this year. A bunch of hard working players who don't mind punching above their weight.

Yeah, I always keep my eye on the newly promoted teams because their games are way less scripted, awlays willing to go for it and try something new. Honestly, most years the relegation battle is sometimes more interesting than the battle for the league.
I'm hoping the Canaries stay up. Its time for boring teams like Wigan to go down for a bit.

people within the FA and Fergie himself have said that the only midfielders who matched his talent at his age were Scholes and Gazza
But has a terrible attitude
potential move that 9/10 times works out for the club getting rid of him, but has the potential to hurt in a few years if he realizes any of his potential
