I say we call Keith and offer a 2099 7rd pick for Puljujarvi ,when the league says no u cant trade picks that far down the line. Keith begs and pleads with the league and says it's an omen of good fortunes for the team eventually the league caves in and allows the dealer go through.

No. They don't deserve to destroy another kid's career.

Yes, but this will happen with or without the number one pick. When Edmonton drafts, a life is destroyed.

It's frankly getting to a point where you wonder if someone pulls a Lindros on them. "Drafted by Edmonton? Nope. Trade my rights."

If you're a top prospect, why would you not do that. Literally no one would blame you except Pouty Lowe.
You sign an ELC no matter where you go, so you may as well go where you have a chance at success.

Better to give up two years (if no trade) in the overall context of your whole career

it might happen as early as this year.
With Chia and McDavid, there was a veneer of professionalism that you could point to and say "yeah, it looks like maybe they are turning things around", but now that it's reverted to the bad old days, I can't imagine there is an agent in the league willing to suggest Edmonton is anything but a worst case scenario location for their client to be traded or drafted to.
IMO, we'll see Hitch fired after the deadline, poolparty moved at the deadline, and McDavid moved prior to the draft.

Heck, just do what any number of guys do - fail to sign, go back in the draft. You've cost a year.
If you don't want to risk it, just limp along on one year deals until UFA. Take them to arb every year you can.

if they won another top 3 pick and were to draft Kaapo Kakko, I wouldn't be shocked if he took a long hard look at how they ruined Puljujarvi and contemplate his next steps.

I think without a doubt it will happen. Take Hughes for example, he knows if he goes to Edmonton, he will always be second fiddle which may restrict his potential earnings. Everyone outside Edmonton can see they are poorly built with next to no plan.

There is too much cash immediately at stake now to wait out a season or to try to make it up on your next contract.
The difference between having a ####ty couple of seasons in edmonton to start your career and say playing in carolina or philly or st louis could be millions of dollars. It could be the difference between your career starting at all.
There is an opportunity cost at being terrible. For companies it means failing to attract the talent that could rescue you you from your nose dive. For NHL teams, it's failing to attract or keep players that could move you up the standings.
The oilers are probably looking at bottoming out for another 3-5 years at this point.

Sure, but pouty Lowe has the ability to essentially hold you hostage for two years, which in turn will push your UFA date back by the same. For a top pick, that means giving up tens of millions of dollars.

They have to be absolutely insane. Both fans and management chased him out of town. I'd say there's a better chance he signs in Calgary than in Edmonton.

You have to think that the kids at the draft will be telling the Oilers they have no interest in playing for them and not to draft them. I can't remember who, but supposedly some kid told a team that was interest in him, that he had no interest in them, and that team removed him from their draft list as a result. You have to think that kids and agents would want to stay as far away from that dumpster fire as possible.

Its like Hall doesn't have a say in the matter.
If (enormous if) they could get him back it would be a huge overpay. Part of the problem they find themselves in to begin with.

I'd have to think agents are training their clients to bomb their interviews with the Oilers.
"What player do you like to model yourself after?"
"Oh I like to think my greatest hockey influences were Mike Comrie, Sheldon Souray, and Chris Pronger's wife."

The PullYourRV situation will not help at all! Every player and agent who has a young player who could potentially end up there will likely be watching how that plays out closely.

Tell them that cups were easy to win in the old days, Gretzky was a bit of a sissy, Fuhr has tarnished his status due to cocaine abuse and that the river valley is overrated.
