Wonder if we could snag Parise for a playoff run. He has been dynamite in the playoffs in the past. Probably would fit right in next to Monahan-Toffoli. Only costs 750k.

@NHLFlames
The #Flames have acquired goaltender Michael McNiven from the Montreal Canadiens.
He has been assigned to the @AHLHeat.

on The Fan in Toronto, Dave Poulin predicted the Flames would grab Klingberg.
no reason given, just speculating.

It just doesn't make sense. The current pairs have a lot of established chemistry. The question is what do you do if someone goes down. But I don't see the name for a guy playing up the line up or even in your top 6. They may need a #7 depending on confidence in Stone, Valimaki and Mackay.

he lead off by saying he thought the Flames would be acquiring one of the top 10 available players before the trade deadline....and then guessed Klingberg

Who sits so Klingberg can play?
I'd be very wary of making major changes to the D core.

I think that move was Toffoli.
I think the organization has a top tier of prospects that has trade value: Coronato, Pelletier, Zary, Wolf. I also don't think they want to trade those guys. I also think they don't want to trade the 2023 1st.
So I see a depth move. Probably 1 depth dman and a depth forward. At most a guy that plays in the middle 6.
I'll take a guess and say: Justin Braun and Johan Larsson

They're not going to come out and say it, but I think the organization is hoping/counting on Pelletier winning a regular spot in the lineup as a form of cap savings next season.
Of the rookies with higher ceilings that could contribute in the top 9. He is one of the very few.
Coronato and Zary aren't anywhere near ready.
Phillips I'm not sold on.

Do we think other playoff teams will be stronger at the #7, 8 and 9 defense positions on their depth chart?
I guess for a late round pick you can pick up some NHL experience but it's such low priority for me. Maybe even look at waivers a la Schlemko or Bartkowski.

Depends on acquisition price but I can understand why DS and BT would not be supremely confident in any of those guys stepping in for a sustained amount of time. If you bring in a #6 that is your #7 than those guys all slot better if you need that additional depth at some point.

I can see bringing in a veteran #6-7 defenceman right at the deadline. Not only is the cap hit lowest at that time, the 23-man roster limit is lifted immediately after and it's easier to carry eight D.

Not sure where he would slot, who would sit out, or how the cap would work, but picking up Klingberg would really put us over the top. He’s gotten older, but he’s still a top-tier two-way defenseman and a beast in the playoffs. I think he has something like 32 pts in his last 39 playoff games.
