I'd take eberle as a rental for sure. Probably wouldn't be too costly. I wonder if frolik and a small addition could get it done (3rd? 4th?)
I like frolik but ebs would look great as a straight shooter on the second line. Also has Calgary connections and at one time was known as a clutch performer. I'd definitely look into it especially because if he sucks we can cut ties without any worry at the end of the year, and if he fits we get the inside track on a new contract while previewing what it looks like.
Edit: should preface by saying that I would only be interested if the price on someone like stone or hayes is just too high.

Fluto Shinzawa speculates acquiring Panarin could cost the Bruins their first-round pick, either Ryan Donato or Urho Vaakainen and Trent Frederic.
TSN: Pierre LeBrun believes the Predators and Bruins checked on Panarin but had a bit of sticker shock regarding the Jackets’ asking price. As the trade deadline nears, he thinks that price could drop, especially if Ottawa’s Matt Duchene or Mark Stone hit the trade block.
In a recent mailbag segment, Mike Chambers said he believes there’s a “very good chance” the Colorado Avalanche trade defenseman Tyson Barrie at the Feb. 25 trade deadline. With promising right-shot defensemen Conor Timmins and Cale Makar coming on board soon, Chambers believes Barrie’s $5.5-million salary cap hit through next season makes him the odd man out.

Issue maybe, why would Islanders sell him, they are leading their division. Would need to be a hockey trade like you indicated but not sure they are actually selling him

Teams trading pending UFA's generally don't back players with term just because the trading teams wants cap space next year.
Teams are getting quite a bit smarter than that.
If they move Eberle, it will be for the highest draft pick they can get.
And Calgary has a few disadvantages in this regard. Firstly, they have no 2nd round pick this year. And secondly, their picks are devalued vs. other teams because they are doing so well. Can't do much about either of those right now.

I honestly think a perfect addition to this team would be Eric Staal. Playoff and Stanley cup experience. I really see him being a low cost acquisition who could be available if things continue to go south for the Wild.

Pfft. You are making it hard to manufacture fake internet rage.
In all honesty I think he is playing a lot better. If a fanbase could collectively hit a reset button and forget pre-christmas Neal, the internet might be a happier place.

Staal would be a good addition, but I just don't see things in Minnesota going far South enough for them to be moving him in two weeks.

If they are being honest with themselves and knowing Koivu and probably Dumba are done for the season, I think they may try and look to the future.

I would consider this if the 1st was conditional on the Flames making it to the 2nd round (if not, it becomes a 2020 2nd or something).

Define low cost?
While I doubt he’s available or would even want to change teams, his cost would be higher than low.

Well like everyone else around here I would prefer to keep our first but I look at it as a similar trade made last year by the jets to acquire Stasny. That cost them a first so maybe a trade involving Lazar and ? ?
Not sure why he wouldn’t want to be traded to a contending team and not are why the wild wouldn’t be interested in getting something for him rather than losing him for nothing
