they might, but probably not to a team they're only 3 points behind with 2 games in hand.

Yup, his good play goes 90% unnoticed, like Weegar. he's a bit like Jaybo that way.

Interesting to read Treliving’s comment in his Q&A with Julian MacKenzie earlier in the week where he references an ‘under the radar’
Player acquisition.

Nick Schmaltz?

His name has been out there but not to the extent of Meier, Duclair, or some others. Eric D also wrote a week or two ago how the coyotes might be motivated to move him as his actual payout will be higher than his cap hit in the latter years of his deal.

Versatile C/W RHS 26 years old. Could fit nicely, but probably not cheap.

He also suggests not doing anything if you aren't firmly in a playoff spot and that you have to know your team. Seriously sounded to me like he isn't likely to do anything at this rate. Should be an interesting month when they get back, to the deadline.

Yes, he did say that. The Flames need to have their best month of the season to be buyers.

I’m skeptical, but hopeful.

If Kylington isn’t coming back, I’d say the only thing we do is get a 5th-6th defenceman.
Adding a player up front won’t make much of a difference, the problems and answers with that group are in the room.

My guess, Flames 1st priority is a top 6 winger

Second is a depth dman.

If we’re gonna go for someone, I’d like to go big. Someone like Meier. Mangiapane/Kylington would have to go the other way to be able to lock him down with a reasonable contract.

Huberdeau - Kadri - Meier would be a dominant line.

I think you'd have to add a ton to get him.
They are going to be more interested in things like the 2023 1st, Coronato, Wolf, etc.

They are re-building.

So do you do it if it is Kylington+Eat Bread+2023 1st+Coronato?

Big price.

I’ve said it before, but of all the proposed trade acquisitions, Meier makes the most sense. RW, scores goals, size, power forward game. Too perfect. Only problem is the money, and it’s a HUGE problem.

I’m a HUGE Tanner Jeannot fan, but I wonder if last year was an anomaly. He’s never been a huge scorer at any level, other than the last few years. The other problem is that he’s not a great skater. I fear that the fan base would see him as a younger Looch. I like him a lot though, he’s one of the toughest in the league, and when he’s on, he plays a nice, physical, power game. I think Sutter would love him too-big, western Canadian boy.

Top 6 winger - currently you have Toffoli, Huberdeau, Mangiapane, Dube, Pelletier, Coleman in the top 9. You aren't moving the first two names out of the top 6, so who is better than the other 4, who is also available and affordable?

Sure, a guy like Meier is better, but does he even fit under the cap? And what does he cost. What about a guy like Kubalik?

Flames aren't paying the price just to watch him leave as a UFA.

As it stands now they'll have to move someone off the roster just to stay cap compliant next season.

Meier isn't happening IMO.

Seems high, no?

Horvat just went for a player, a pick, and a prospect. Granted Meier is a controlled asset (kinda). But it sounds like the Islanders intend to resign Horvat, and that’s reflected in the price they paid.

If I’m in Treliving’s shoes it’s one of Kylington/Dube/Mangiapane + 1st + one of Coronato/Pettier/Zary.

If Sharks aren’t interested, moving on.

He is controlled, Horvat was not.

The cost will be higher.

That is a not just a big price but a significant overpay for a guy that averages 27 goals and 29 assists.

Mangiapane averages 23 goals himself so is that a upgrade for that price?

I don't think so.

Won't be THAT high, that's a bigger return than Eichel and many other stars pulled

That's his average but over the last 2 seasons he's taken a clear step. He's now arguably the best power forward in the game.

Is it?
Eat Bread and Kylington both have some risk attached to them.

Sabres got 3 good young pieces. That's what SJ will want.

I don't know he could but there is reason to be apprehensive about adding a big name, big names that we brought in have had a hard time adjusting this season and I don't see them getting back to normal until next season.

I don't think we are in a position to gamble so much of our future and a current piece for a unknown.
