IR doesn't help them, it makes things worse. They don't get cap relief with a player on IR, it just allows them to call up a player and be within the roster limit. It just means call up scrub 23 also counts against their cap.

Yeah, if they are miss a minimum 10 games or 24 days they can go on LTIR, so a doctor would have to be involved. A real doctor as the NHL makes sure there's no shenanigans.

I know +/- isn't a perfect statistic but it's telling that there are only 2 players in the top 20 scoring who are a minus and they're both oilers.
McLotto and Drai, the two who play zero defense.
