I agree. Would rather get a pick (because we draft better) and just hope Kakko is a UFA down the road.

Time will show there's one winner and two losers in the Lindholm saga, you take your pick out of Vancouver, Calgary and Boston. I know my choices.

Yet, he played well for them in the playoffs and got a good contract out of it. If Demko doesn’t go down then the Canucks probably would have made it to the third round. I love the trade for the Flames but it was a still a pretty reasonable rental trade for the Canucks.

Kakko is worth basically what the Flames got for Sam Bennett. Late 2nd round pick and B level prospect.
So for a trade today would be 2025 2nd (from Col) + Parker Bell for Kakko, or something close to that.

If that was all it took then we’d have him by now. Feels like NYR is thinking he’s worth more than that, which in my opinion he’s not.

I agree that is not what the Rangers think he’s worth, trying to leverage off of draft pedigree.

Bennett got traded when he was almost 25 and had 4 straight years of less than 30 points and had 12 points the year before we traded him.
Kakko is 23 and is 1 year removed for a 40 point season.
Not suggesting he is better than Bennett, but he should have more value than what we traded Bennett for.

There is nothing in Kakko's possession stats that indicate there is a player there.
Pass.

That's why we're talking Kuzmenko

If the discussion is Kuzmenko for Kakko, then I would pull the trigger on the following assumptions:
a) Kuzmenko is a better player now, and perhaps in the future
b) removing Kuzmenko from our lineup actively hurts the Flames chance of winning this season (I see this as a positive)
c) Kuzmenko, within the context of our rebuild, should not be re-signed as the age of his peak does not align with when we hope to be competitive.
d) Kuzmenko will likely have a decent year in CGY based on his time last year. I expect him to be an approx 70pt winger and be a key cog in our offence.
e) regardless of how he performs this season (anywhere between 0-100pt pace), I do not see him returning any more than a late 2nd round pick based on the history of wingers being traded at the deadline. The 2nd pick is the ceiling, and not the floor of his value.
I have not watched Kakko, nor am I convinced that Kakko will blossom or has potential to be an impact player. BUT if the Flames scouts think he does have the potential to be a core winger for us, then it is worth trading the equivalent of a late 2nd for a potential long-term piece in the right age bracket.

Heinemann was not a nothing prospect like Bell. He was a recent 2nd rounder. The comparable flames prospects would be Morin, Basha or Battaglia.

Sorry. it was an A and not A+. Still pretty ridiculous considering how terrible Lindholm was for us the past 1.5 seasons.
Even more ridiculous is your statement that Kuzmenko might not get another 100 points the rest of his career in the NHL.
For a pro guy you sure have some serious hate issues with Russians with Zadorov and Kuzmenko. and your over the top love for the coyotes! lol

You should learn to read before attacking him lol. It was that Kuzmenko is more likely to not get another 100 points in his career before he ever has a 100 point season.

In 2022-23, Kaapo Kakko put up 40 points in 82 games at the tender age of 22 years old, playing just over 15 minutes per game. How many players that age have a 40-point season under their belt? In the 2 previous seasons, he would've had over 30 points in each, if they weren't cut short. In 2023-24, a season that most would consider to be "disastrous", he still managed 13 goals and 19 points in 61 games. He only turned 23 in February.
KK might not be your cup of tea, but it's preposterous to say that he has no value. He was improving every year until last season, and has TONS of potential. Will he put up as many points as Kuzmenko this year? No, but in a few years he would look like a steal if we could swap the two.
Don't forget, Kakko had the third-best season all-time for a U-18 player in the Liiga in his draft year, just behind Barkov.

Conroy's watching the Canada-Switzerland game at the Hlinka right now. Just did an interview on TSN during the intermission, but only caught the end of it.
Vacation must be done already

He’s 23, and has a 40-point season under his belt. Way too early to call him a bust.
