Team Idiot Box would like to select in the category of Comedy Sitcom, Perfect Strangers.

For those who don't remember...

Quote:
Balki Bartokomous, a sheepherder from the small Mediterranean Greek-like island of Mypos, travels to the United States in search of his relatives. He finds his cousin, Larry Appleton - who has recently 'escaped' from his large-sized family and is reveling in the unaccustomed luxury of having his own room to himself. They end up sharing accommodation in Larry's apartment - even though the two cousins could not be more dissimilar. For, while Larry is panicky, hyperventilative, business-like and mercenary - Balki is placid, unharried, sunny-natured and idealistic
The show hit the airwaves in 1986 and lasted eight seasons, ending in 1993.

Youtube Goods:

Opening Credits:

The cousins try out a sleeping bag:

The cousins encounter quicksand:

And of course, The Dance of Joy:

I LOVED this show when I was little. I just picked up the first and second seasons on dvd and I still love it. I really like the physical comedy. You don't get too much of that kind of slapstick stuff anymore.

Instead of everybody saying they're sorry could we not let other members of the draft know you're going to be away for awhile? Maybe kick yourself to the sidelines or send GS your pick? For me it's hard to stay interested in this draft when we're getting a lot of A/K's.

^^I agree with that, but some people do try and keep it going by doing what you suggest. I think we are just in a time frame now where Christmas is coming, there is shopping to be done, and parties to attend, trying to get work done so it doesn't creep up during the holidays, weather perhaps effecting internet connectivity. I am willing to let it go this month.

I hear what you're saying and can appreciate that. I know with habernac having the newborn and all his time is at a premium and i respect and understand that. Or Barnes being bogged down with work. Or others bogged down with school work and life in general. And that's never been a problem with me.

For ime it's being an ongoing thing that goes beyond this month. The lack of courtesy to others by not letting others know your going to be away. Maybe people don't check to see where they are in the draft and when thier pick is coming up. I don't know.

Maybe i'm being unrealistic here. If i am i'm sure i'll hear about it.

No, I don't think you're being unrealistic. It would be nice if people could let us know, but sometimes that's not possible. That's the point I was making. That, and I am not too concerned because this is just for fun and it's the holidays, so I am willing to let it go. If this were a serious competition or it weren't the holidays, I would probably be harrassing people via PMs or something.

Fair enough - i see your point. I'll drop my case and move on

Apologies to any who may have been offended by my comments.

I don't think you offended anyone. Like I said, you definitely have a point. It would be nice for people to let others know when they are gone, if they have prior notice instead of just disappearing.

I just want to be explicit that I am not picking a fight with you. I think we are in agreeance. I've had enough of those for the week anyways.

I knew you weren't picking a fight and i do appreciate hearing your viewpoint. I was hoping to create some discussion without offending anyone.

Habernac's pick was at 12:14 AM
AK deadline +15 hrs = 3:14 PM
My pick made at 3:06 PM

I slept in this morning - I wasn't away and didn't know I would be eating up my selection time. Some understanding/flexibility at this time of year would be nice as we all have other things happening and while the draft is important, it's not something I'll put ahead of real life.

I agree it's important to let the commish know if you will be away and to send her your pick but if the draft simply moves faster than expected then that's what AK'ing is for. Either we need to shorten the time in which we have to make our picks or we just have to live with the fact that at times there will be a full 15hr lull before the next pick comes up.

Just my two cents.....

No, your pick comes after mattyc not habernac thus the 20 hours as getbak pointed out.

I do understand people have lives and all and have never said other wise.

Sorry for bringing the subject up.

Good enough....whatevs, not really trying to argue it - I didn't have internet much after lunch on Friday either way so it didn't really matter.

(And tbqh, after so many martinis even if I had known that it was my turn you wouldn't want to see the gobbledy- that I might have posted....)

K, time to go hunting a new selection....and some OJ....

Which means the board needs to be updated. I'll try to update it today.

I would be in favour of shortening the AK time as the draft moves along. I would shorten it initially to 12 hours just because it makes the math easier: If the last in-turn pick was at 4:30pm, you know the next AKing will be at 4:30am, and the next at 4:30pm, and so on.

I would keep it at that point until the holidays are over (January 5, let's say), then shorten it even more to 6 hours. At this point, you really can't complain if someone picks a show that you wanted because if you wanted it badly enough, you would have already picked it. But, I don't know, 6 hours might be too short.

Maybe instead of PMing your next pick just to GirlySports (who has her own life as well), we should also PM it to the person who picks after you in the draft since that's really the only person you're holding up. That way, if the person after you is waiting to pick, they can post your pick, then their own. If they're not waiting, you're absence isn't holding anyone else up.

The only problem with a really short AK time is going overnight.
If I see a delay during the day I may shorten the AK time.

If someone makes a pick at midnight how the heck can you make a pick by 6am? Since you suggested it getbak, you know you will be the first victim

Why are y'all in such a hurry to pick anyways? We're not going anywhere anytime soon
