It does seem like if the Flames are interested in the Ruck twins they could easily make that happen now.
For a guy who has been terrible this season it's a solid trade.

I don't see that much difference between Weegar and Parayko personally.
And sounds like Parayko is going to return a lot more

I wonder if Castagna signs when his NCAA season is done, it's already his third year at that level.
I like that he's apparently big, very fast and a face off specialist. Could be useful down the road.
The 2nds all being in the 2026 draft is insane. Draft day will be a blast if they keep them all. Lots of ammunition to trade up. Here's hoping we get the Ruck twins.

So the ends are from NYR, Ottawa and Utah.
Based on current standings (Ottawa loses their 1st) that means they would pick 34th (NYR), 35th (CGY), 45th (OTTl, 49th (UTA)
Then we have the Flames 1st, Vegas 1st.
Then the Canucks 3rd and Flames 3rd. Those should be between 64-70.
So this draft the Flames will select EIGHT players in the top-70.

I would bet he does. Especially with Kadri going likely too

There's definitely a few who came in with the expectation of being outraged, so that's exactly what they are. To most others it's a decently strong return.

For sure, but we all know he's capable of much better. Including Utah.
I'm already warming up to the deal, 8 picks in the top 70ish.
Likely more added to that total if they trade Kadri and/or Coleman.

I didn't think he would get traded so it's already a good trade. Drafting has been pretty good. Not bad for an old guy with a long contract.

Brzu looks pretty good. Aside from that, when was the last time the Flames were building and thus acquiring prospects?
Calgary has a few good ones in their history though.

Choked that Weegar is gone.
Really liked him. Took the sting out of the Huberdeau trade.
Figured he was our next captain.

Flames will have six picks in the first 64 picks of the 2026 draft. Outstanding opportunity to stock up the system! I like the addition of Castagna as well. Big center who has a motor that doesn't stop. Reminds me of Yelle, which would be an outstanding addition to the system.

I do feel like it's clear Conroy really wanted 2026 picks and I think he realized he wasn't getting them in the Kadri and Coleman deals, and didn't get one in the Andersson deal.
So think it increased the value of these picks to him

Me too, then this season happened and he took a huge step back.
They sold low on Weegar.

This feels solid if unspectacular. Would’ve preferred fewer pieces of higher quality.
Hard to complain though. Weegs is having a down year and is on the wrong side of 30 despite his good contract.
And his contract is only good if he rebounds. If this is the start of his decline then this was an excellent return

Parayko is a cup champion with 89 post season games and he’s played for Canada at 4 Nations and the Olympics.
Whereas Weegar has 20 playoff games, and was lightly considered for both of those national teams.
Parayko is worth more.
