Im starting to wonder if its too late for Lando to surpass Max for the DC. seems like all Max has to do is just consistently finish somewhere in the points for the rest of the year.
McLaren have completely taken over the top dog spot. .300 + ahead of Max at Zandvoort. thats a drubbing.

How can Williams let Sargent keep crashing their cars. Surely there is a driver who's not Bearman or Lawson, who could be at least as quick as Sargent yet keep the car in one piece?

20 second lead for the W for Lando Norris! McLaren might just have this Constructors championship in the bag.
Drivers title gonna be tough but Lando could tighten up to make the last race a big important deal.

34 points with 9 races left. He's going to need to finish first 4 more times than Verstappen to be able to get him. Given how much better the McLaren was today, its possible. Had they not forced him to switch with Piastri it's 27 points.
At this rate it's only about 3 or 4 more races until McLaren is at the front of the Constructors table. Quite the turn around from the first third of last year where their car was the 5th best on the grid.

Yeah nightmare scenario for McLaren if the unlikely happens and Norris loses by less than 7 points.

Norris is 70 points back in the WDC. I don’t see him winning every race for the rest of the season. It’s gonna take 1 or 2 max DNF’s to close it, barring a miracle.
For the WCC, it’s in the bag for McLaren I think. They’re outpacing red bull significantly and red bull is essentially a one man team. Red bull need some major improvements to have any shot. Even if max and Lando are even for the rest of the season, Piastri will close the 30 point gap on his own with point differential to Checo.

I still put that second place finish more on Lando than on McLaren. If he had switched as soon as it made sense when he was first asked, he would have been free to have overtaken Piastri. He had the faster car with loads of laps to come…it was inevitable.
Teams have unofficial standards and one of them is that they try not to undercut their teammates. Sometimes, based on a variety of factors (oncoming weather, likely placement after the pit stop, etc) it makes sense to pull the trailing driver in first. To keep things fair, they make the move with the assumption that the drivers will swap at the earliest convenience.
There will be times in the future when it makes sense for Piastri to undercut Norris. It’s going to be…interesting… to see how Norris handles it. Their cars are good enough that they’ll be 1-2 pretty frequently and these kind of things tend to happen. Champagne problems!
If Norris wasn’t a weirdo about it, he’d have won the race easily and there would have been no controversy.

As someone who's mainly followed F1 from the Netflix series, how did Red Bull end up with 2 teams? It seems weird to have a farm team constructor that's only purpose is to support another, not to win on it's own. Isn't that was Formula 2 is for?

They bought another team that was in financial difficulty (Minardi). Back when teams would regularly fold and F1 was happy someone stepped up.
It is kind of weird but they’ve always operated independently and build their own chassis. They don’t even share parts like Ferrari and Haas (who share the max number of parts allowed under the rules).
F2 is a good feeder series but it’s a big step down from F1. Drivers also tend to max out the development they get from the series.
Means that many drivers who come to F1 need development time. Teams can basically lend or pay to have them drive with a back marker team. But having them at your own junior team is better. Much better than being a reserve driver and only getting a few free practice sessions all year.
And it’s worked out great for red bull, and F1 in general, honestly. Sainz, Max, Albon, Gasly, Danny Ric, Vettel all came up via Toro Rosso.
All that being said, F1 teams have complained about it. And will complain louder if RB jr ever become front runners. As long as they finish down the order, it’s not a huge deal.
If I’ve totally got anything wrong, someone feel free to correct me. But that’s how I’ve always understood it.

It's also a good place to develop technical staff, mechanics, and pit crews. A top team like Red Bull will have a target on them and likely lose a few staffers to other teams. So they likely can get people from the Junior team with some experience to fill departures from the second team. They're actually doing reasonable well this year currently 6th in the Constructors table.
Maybe they should have consulted them for how to save money on the catering bills.

Sad day for Logan, but I don't see how Williams could afford to keep him in the car. It would be one thing if he was just slow, but tearing up equipment is a complete non-starter.

Me at 1am Saturday: “F1 should be starting soon…maybe there is a race this weekend…but I didn’t get any alerts from the F1 calendar I download…I guess they start in Sept.” and back to sleep I go. Wake up to find there was a race, and my F1 calendar has disappeared. I think that’s my second miss. I’m a backmarker anyway. Calendar added back and since I’m away this weekend, early Monza guess:
