The Flames have two centres that can anchor a top line. That seems pretty good.

And CP will rejoice with Backlund settling into his role as one of the best third line centers in the league

Who knows, maybe Sutter shifts Lindholm over to RW on a line with Kadri and Hubey, and Backs stays at 2C? I hope not, but you never know.....
Huberdeau-Kadri-Lindholm
Mangiapane-Backlund-Toffoli
Lucic-Dube-Coleman
Ruzicka-Rooney-Lewis

The Flames top 3 centers are a 1A, 1B, and 2B, which is pretty darn good. Better than most teams can hope for.
Backlund to me, is a legitimate 2nd line center on most teams, but on a Cup contender, he would be on the 3rd line just because most Cup contenders need center depth. I don't know if the Flames are Cup contenders. My expectations are pretty guarded, but it's the right strategy to build one.
The defense also has quite a few interchangeable parts. Combined with the center depth, this will allow Sutter to keep ice-time distributed more evenly, which he likes to do. This is key to preventing players from getting warn out and banged up. Some people like to point out that the Flames did not face injury adversity in the regular season, but a big part of that is how Sutter deploys his lines.

I feel like we at least see that 1st line at some point.

This makes absolutely no sense. Backlund is a 2b center? What does that even mean?
Did you mean to say 1A, 2A and 2B?

1A = Top line center on most contending teams (Lindholm)
1B = Top line center on a lot of teams, or an over qualified 2nd line center (Kadri)
2B = A second line center on most teams, or an over qualified 3rd line center (Backlund)

Or the Flames #1, 2 and 3 centers.
Adding letters is a waste of effort and time.

He's trying to make a point of how good the Flames' C situation is, a point I completely agree with.
Not a typical 1, 2, 3 situation, which is a lazy way to look at it imo

I was just trying to articulate depth. Simply saying a #1, #2, or #3 doesn't describe depth. Every team has a #1, #2, and #3 just by default.
It's similar to when people say they have a goalie tandem that is a 1A/1B situation. The 1B is still #2, but the 1B description describes their value as more than just a #2 goalie.
I was trying to do the same thing with the centers. It didn't take any additional time or effort really. I can type like 20 words a minute!

I think we will see that line if we’re down a goal and front-load.

Man there has been a boatload of pissiness around here lately.
You'd think people would be happier!
1A 1B and 2B made perfect sense to me.

Would be nice if Toffoli works well with Kadri or Huberdeau
The Flames needs him to succeed. We can’t carry his slow ass around with little contributions

I'm not a huge Toffoli fan by any means, he honestly seems like the weak link on any line.
But he did generate a lot of chances in the playoffs. His underlying chance generation metrics (and eye test) passed the test, but his bread and butter, finishing, let him down.
As the shooter with either of Huberdeau or Kadri on his line should work out.

I don’t agree with you on Backlund only because IMO he’s shown he elevated in the playoffs. I think his post season performances are legit 2a.

Yes, that’s the hope
I don’t think he works well with Backlund
