Exactly. I have a feeling Treliving will try to pull off a balancing act this off season. Keep some of the skill guys and keep some of the bigger tougher guys.

How is Lewis even in this discussion? he makes $800k. Unless he falls off the cliff in the next 3 rounds it's a no brainer.

I don't think Lewis will ask for much more than the minimum. From what he and his dad have said, they know sticking with Sutter is the best way to prolong his career. If Lucic goes and the rest of the 4th line is kids, Lewis is the ideal vet to have as a 12/13th forward.
Ritchie could probably be kept for minimum or close to it, if the Flames want him as a 13/14th forward.
I doubt Z will take a discount, so he probably goes sadly. A re-signed Stone, Mackey, or Valimaki could take his spot.
I could see Gudbranson signing for $2-2.5m since he's bounced around a lot in his career and is looking for stability.

Besides the playoffs is where it is at. Who cares if you have 55points in the regular season when you are mediocre in the post season.
|
Him reminding you of Bouwmeester is a bad thing?
Yeah who needs a guy who can play monster minutes against tough match-ups and chip in offensively.
Eff that guy! Get rid of him!

Going the "truculence" route didn't really work for us either when Brian Burke was here.

You have to make the playoffs first. I don't know if you've noticed, but that's not exactly a formality.

Hanifin suffers from what Jaybo did when he was here - no recognition by a lot of people of what he contributes (what you described) and a desire for him to be something he's not (namely, an offensive wizard who makes end to end rushes and booms clappers on the regular).

We were never truculent when Burke was here and that pissed me off to no end. Like why was he even here? other than to be with his daughter going to school in Calgary.
Easiest team to play against for the past 10 years.

What does he have against Sutter?
In another thread here, someone mentioned how the LA veterans like Brown, Kopitar, etc would've been amped up to play the Flames in round 2, using their hate for Sutter as motivation. What did he do to them, besides coach them to 2 Cups???

and? where did that take us in the playoffs?
Biggest game of the season and what did Sutter do? 28:42 of ice time for KGBeast and 27:04 for Hanifin. Not to mention Hanifin was on the ice for both goals against and the breakaway with 5 mins left in the 3rd.

It's almost as if getting a good balance of skill and size is the key to playoff success

Re Hrudey. I tried to find it online but couldn't. There was some mention that Hrudey did not like his experiences with "tough" coaches like Sutter and Larry Robinson. I did find a quote from Sutter about Hrudey that was really very complimentary, speaking about how he was de facto captain of the team and he felt bad that he did not get Hrudey until the end of his career. Others have talked about Hrudey thinking Sutter ended his career pre-maturely.

I guess in the end it's tricky business, because mantles get hung on people when it's a team game and it takes all types
I guess either way poor Jaybo ended up with quite a CV
Bouwmeester won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Blues in 2019, becoming the twenty-ninth member of the Triple Gold Club.
Internationally, Bouwmeester has represented Canada numerous times. He appeared in three consecutive World Junior Championships between 2000 and 2002, winning a silver and two bronze medals. He made his debut with the senior national team in 2003, winning the first of two consecutive World Championship titles. Bouwmeester was a member of the 2004 World Cup of Hockey championship team and won a gold medal with Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

You've been on Hanifin for the entire season and look for every opportunity to find fault in his game and ignore the good stuff.
It's a pretty apparent bias to add to a long list of weird gripes that you have and relentless negative focus on certain players.

In the Johnny Mak-roverse Noah Hanifin is the new Mark Giordano. There must always be one elite-level top pairing defenseman who is no good.

Can anyone give examples of Hrudy being anti-Sutter and it colouring his perception? I read that a few times here but I can't find any examples of it.

Just like how you have weird gripes and stalkerish posts on me. lol
Like I barely mentioned Hanifin all season. Maybe like 2 or 3 times? I'll donate $10 to CP for any regular season Hanifin bitch posts over 2. I probably criticized Gaudreau more this year...
He was adequate and put up some good numbers.

hahaha. and was I wrong? Gio hasn't even been close to elite after his Norris winning season. and Hanifin is good but I wouldn't classify him as elite.
Remember all those posters who guaranteed Gio was going to return a 1st rounder at the trade deadline?
