Ignition is The Offspring's best album. Smash is good, too. A few after had some decent songs, but their earlier stuff is the real deal. Even "Elders" off their debut is a sick song. Other bangers on that self-titled album, too (1989 release, holy fk).
They leaned hard into pop punk with Pretty Fly and stuff and that really lost me. I don't begrudge them, of course. Go make your money and it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the songs of theirs I like, but I dislike some of that cheese enough that I'll be crawling out of my skin during those tracks at the show.
I'm so surprised they're at the Dome. I saw them at Max Bell in the late 90s. Amazing to think they're bigger now...wtf. I do think these Gen X bands are cashing in on all of us having enough money to afford shows without a care in the world. It's great and feels really nice to see all your old Calgary show people for those of us who were at everything forever. I also like seeing young people enjoying a variety of music - I think TikTok has been amazing for introducing kids to such a wide variety of music.
My kids are going with me to this one (18 & 19). I've taken them to a few shows when they were younger (they were those little kids with giant headphones on their ears). My son got to go on stage with Pennywise at UC one time because he was the youngest one there...that was so cool.
Anyway, I'm there for Bad Religion. I don't think I've ever missed them play Calgary for decades now. Even gone up to Edmonton to see them when they were skipping Calgary. Bad Religion at the Dome will be weird AF. I'm used to seeing them in super small venues where you can just wander up really close. Doesn't matter...need to replace my Bad Religion t-shirt that is threadbare after wearing it so much (Suffer album cover burning little boy) since I was 20. Really hoping to get another one that'll ride me to the end.
