It looks like the previous gen, with some added botox injections. I don't have any strong reactions to it either way.
I actually liked the BRZ when I took it for a drive. The power bump is definitely appreciated, although probably nowhere near enough for a lot of detractors who wanted the turbo.
I think it would make an excellent first RWD car. Enough to have fun, but not to get you into too much trouble.
yeah well if you guys think the cars look the same simply by their profile, I can't help you there.
I do understand what you're saying that it has changed. It is readily apparent when you do a side by side. If you're a fan of the BRZ, I can understand how the differences would jump out at you.
I've never been a fan of the car, so it was a 'meh' before and it's still a 'meh' from me.
I guess I was just coming at it from the perspective of it being instantly recognizable as a BRZ. I do see where you're coming from FTR.
I guess I just think the first gen was a simple and clean looking car without anything to really complain about. The car has the same proportions as before but now just looks awkward and inconsistent. The only thing that looks to be an improvement is the fender vents, and they've just been taken directly from the Lexus RC.
It always had that Miata / S2000 feel about it. I haven't actually seen very many of them out in the wild though. It's probably not the car somebody looking into a Subaru or a Toyota would go for.
Where's the drop ship merch store? You can't just flaunt this stuff.
If it ever comes to it, I'll let you know. I've ventured into something like this before, and to be honest, it wasn't necessarily worth the time and effort (especially since someone stole my designs and tried to pass it off as their own). But it could be fun, so maybe I'll give it a go.
The lines do not flow nicely on the new BRZ at all. Also something about it makes the car look tall and stubby. The side sills look like they were added without consideration for the flow of the rear quarters.
I was trying to decide what I didn't like about it specifically, and I think you just hit the nail on the head - "stubby". Perfect word to describe that car.
I actually like the current BRZ design. I don't think it's amazing but it's good.

I think a good deal of the "stubby" look is a function of the side sills.
I have the same observation (almost complaint) about my own car, actually. When first launched, the Vantage had side sills that swept under the body, making the car appear longer and slimmer in the middle, like an optical illusion corset. The N400 sills introduced this slight lip and swoop to the sill, didn't quite undo the effect but wasn't as clean. Then the V8S and V12 have the flat sills that run the full length of the space between the front and rear wheels. Great to better protect the sills from debris kicked up by the front tires, but from certain angles the V8S and V12 look shorter and chubbier than the standard car... all because of the sills.
I like it. The first version wasn't bad looking so I no need to stray too far and considering like the 400Z it's riding on the same platform as the outgoing car so you aren't going to see a lot of wild sheetmetal changes.
So that video does actually make the overall shape of the car look better than it does in pictures. However, it also exposes how plasticky some of the details are, particularly all of the grilles and the trim around the exhaust pipes (diffuser? Doesn't look like much of one if so).
That being said, I give them all the props in the world for having all of those vents be functional.
Ultimately, it's in the same position as the last one: I might be interested if there were aftermarket mods available to make it look less cheap and plasticky, and more importantly, there needs to be a performance version with a turbo and even more weight savings. If you could shave 100 lbs off of it and get it up around 300hp / 200lb, it becomes a very, very appealing option for a sports coupe that will likely still be under 40k.

I still think the first gen BRZ/86 is very underrated, at least from a non-track point of view.
You can drive the car at 90-100% and not get in any trouble. It corners better than any car I've driven at any price range, and it's very tail happy but predictably so (maybe less so now in the next gen with better tires).
It sounds like they've fixed the torque dip in this version, so that alone should make it even more fun in everyday driving. More power would be nice, but I think there's more happiness to be had here for your dollar than anywhere else.
And I don't think Toyota at least wants this to have a turbo from the factory. They don't want it to eat away at Supra sales.
Looking for some recommendations on window tinting shops. Our new Ford Fusion Hybrid doesn't have any privacy tinting on the rear windows and I need to get that done at some point. I've heard that Shadow Tint and ZRAuto are good shops. What other shops should I consider?
