I have been telling people Dougie is the guy that is going to go for a couple months.
I just hope we win the trade immediately and long term

I think we should stop acting like trading Dougie is a certainty. Outside of coaches, virtually every move Treliving has made was unanticipated by analysts and insiders.

Honestly. If this Carolina thing holds water, I think the deal gets done before the first pick is made. Just need to get that contract done before trade call.

To trade a young RH top pairing defenceman that’s locked up for multiple years he better have not only demanded a trade but also challenged the entire locker room to a kumite. I don’t buy any of this “he’s sad about his brother” crap.

The return for Phaneuf was bad, but was trading him really that bad a call? Given his career trajectory, I'd say it was a good time to move him. It was apparent by his 5th season in the NHL that Phaneuf was never going to have the instincts or enthusiasm for the defensive side of the game, and his offence had plateaued. He apparently had entitlement issues as well. Frankly, I see a lot of Phaneuf in Hamilton.

I think this is a similar situation, every player is trade-able at the right price. If Treliving sets a high bar and a team meets it, you have to consider it.

I read that in Elliotte's voice.

He has 3 years left on his contract, it's not like he's locked up permanently. If he will leave at the end of it, his value starts to sink next summer. Like everyone else I expect they get a staggering return though or they don't do it. Lindholm and Hanifin alone doesn't do it for me. Lindholm has been around enough that he looks like a Frolik level player at best. Hanifin seems like second pairing. Even if the Flames need to expand the deal I'd like to see a third piece if the first two are mid level young players.

I can't see Trelving "losing" a trade the Feaster did or the way Sutter did at the end. I'm not in favour of moving Dougie but it we do I feel confident that Treliving will absolutely maximize the value of the asset.

I think a lot of people undervalue a 25 year old RH shot d-man who not only lead the NHL in goals by a dman but is also on a very good contract for a couple more seasons.

Oh, crap! It's my son's final piano recital of his career tonight. I hope he forgives me. He'll forgive me. I hope my wife forgives me.
