This team still doesn't have enough firepower. They may have to overpay but getting someone line Neal would really go a long way, either that or make a trade for someone to score.
As it stands now, this will probably be a team that's more fun to watch and more competitive than last year but IMO they're still not a playoff team...yet.

They are not a guaranteed playoff team, but they do have the pieces to be in a playoff spot.

I'm not one for pencilling in players that I really haven't seen play so I'll hold off on the the Czarnik roster planning.
I hope he's as good as Mangiapane or Foo (or better I guess) as I see them as the most likely to push their way in.
As it stands the Derek Ryan addition completes the top nine in my mind, as I can't see him on the fourth line.
So Monahan, Gaudreau, Lindholm, Backlund, Tkachuk, Bennett, Frolik, Jankowski and Ryan. Lots of possible combinations in there.
If they feel any of the other players including Czarnik have surpassed the group above then they can really balance out their bottom six and roll four lines.

If the Flames are done, they are going to need to see big internal improvement from multiple players to make any noise IMO.
Jankowski
Bennett
Czarnik
Foo
Mangiapane
Lindholm
etc
Hopefully the coaching change helps too I guess.
Really missed the boat with ROR though in my opinion. That would have set up our forward core fro years, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong by having patience pay off.

So compared to start of last season you have Lindholm, Ryan and Czarnik (?) in and Ferland, Stajan and Versteeg out.
Hanifin in for Hamilton on the blue line.
Generally, signigificant improvement will need to come from something over than pure talent IMO.

Gaudreau monahan jankowski
Tkachuk lindholm Bennett
Frolik Backlund Czarnick
Lazar Ryan Foo
Brouwer
I think Jankowski and Bennett will excel in their new positions.

I’ve changed my mind about Maroon. I don’t want the Flames to sign him. I just want them to sign Shore.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Lindholm
(Czarnik/Mangiapane/Foo/Shore) - Ryan - Frolik
(Czarnik/Mangiapane/Foo/Shore) - Jankowski - (Shore/Foo/Mangiapane/Czarnik)
(Czarnik/Mangiapane/Foo/Shore)
Brouwer
Lazar should be sent to the AHL unless he proves otherwise. The Flames shouldn’t fall prey to the sunken cost fallacy. Even though they paid a 2nd rounder for him, I don’t think last season suggests he deserves to start the season with the team. I think there is a strong argument he was the team’s worst forward. So, despite the cost, he should be given the opportunity to fight for a roster spot with Foo, Mangiapane, Czarnik and Shore (if resigned).

I'd still bury Backlund and Frolik so that the rest can feast on easier competition.
The lines are complicated, I'd try to look at it in pairs and they fill based on daily form and need.
Gaudreau - Monahan - X
Tkachuk - Lindholm - X
X - Backlund - Frolik
X - Ryan - X
"Fillers" are Czarnik, Foo, Jankowski, Bennett, Lazar, Brouwer, Mangiapane etc. I can see them trying Jankowski or Bennett on the second line and on Backlund's wing.
I really do hope someone on the farm can grab a spot this year - Dube would look great next to Backlund and Frolik.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Maroon?
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Neal
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Janko - Ryan - Czarnik
Problem with this is we still have Brouwer, Lazar, Foo, and the others.

Neal would be a legit sniper to put alongside Gaudreau/Monahan; but I’d slot him differently... rumoured that Tre offered a three year term - guessing 4 x 6 24 million.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - Neal
Jankowski - Backlund - Czarnik
Mangiapane - Ryan - Frolik
Brouwer, Lazar, Foo
I think we end up burying Brouwer in the AHL or finding a suitor somehow until next season when we will buy him out then ala Raymond. I also think to open up spots for the younger players we could see Frolik flipped for futures when the dust settles to a team that missed out on improving their middle 6 forward group.

I like it a lot. If we could find a way to jettison Brouwer there's still room for Maroon as well.

Oh yes. This is magnificent.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal -- has the raw skill to be among the best flames top lines ever
Bennett-lindholm-tkachuk -- grit, finesse, defensive ability. This line has it all
Frolik-Backlund-ryan -- shut down line, can chip in in the score sheet.
Mangiapane-jankowski-lazar -- a top duo from the ahl and a promising young grinder hopefully round out the team with enough energy
Each line (minus 1) has two centers with different handedness for better draws. Good balance of lh/rh, strong defensive ability, and some sand paper.
Gio-andersson -- I think that Rasmus should be given a chance to learn from gio directly
Hanifin-hamonic-- let's see what harmonic can do with a partner who's awake the whole game
Brodie-stone -- reuniting a pair that has shown tepid success over the last few years

A shade under $13M to sign Lindholm, Hanifin, Jankowski, Rittich, and Kulak.

Probably right in the range of how much it should take too.

I still think both Frolik and Brouwer aren’t in the starting line up in October

This is how i think it shakes out as well....though that bottom line could be all sorts of combinations with the amount of bodies all of a sudden.
Im guessing BT isnt done as far as moving guys out...minor deals for sure, but getting a couple picks for a couple guys seems impossible to avoid at this point.

Frolik-Jankowski-Czarnik
Bennett-Ryan-Lazar
Brouwer
That's my guess. Lazar may get bumped if someone has a great camp (Foo, Mangiapane, Dube)
We're likely going to see a lot of combinations though, that's Peters' style.

Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - James Neal
Matthew Tkachuk - Elias Lindholm - Sam Bennett
Mark Jankowski - Mikael Backlund - Austin Czarnik
Spencer Foo/Lazar - Derek Ryan - Michael Frolik
Mark Giordano - T.J. Brodie
Noah Hanifin - Travis Hamonic
Brett Kulak - Michael Stone
Mike Smith
Jon Gillies
Roll 4
We gotta try and move Brouwer. Otherwise, I think he can take Foo/Lazar's spot for now.
But we are MUCH better now.
