Such an articling student. Let me interpret for those not in law... "Never mind that I have led paid seminars teaching fortune 500 executives how to negotiate." = "my principal let me sit in on a meeting with Murray Edwards' executive assistant, and I took notes and poured coffee."

Hey. I was in the same room once as Jim Pattison. I guess you could say I'm a business mogul.

Question; when does a season's first pay period start?
Has Johnny missed out on any monies yet?

I believe they get paid on the 15th & 30th of every month, and they only get paid for the regular season. He has not missed any money yet (except for any per diems he would have received for road games -- and based on the lineups they sent to Edmonton and Winnipeg, he likely wouldn't have travelled even if he was signed).

I'm almost certain the guys get paid to attend camp, so I would imagine he's already lost out.

According to this, NHL players are paid on the 15th and last day of every month starting 30 September. Gaudreau's first payday is 15 October, and I expect (if I am reading this correctly) his situation is actually worse than I suggested above. With the season starting on the 12th, then that would mean missing only three games, but surrendering 1/13 of his annual salary for the year on his next contract.

Except if he gets more money on a long term contract due to the sit out.
I imagine he would feel he can make more money in the long term if he uses a sit out as a means to negotiate.

Does that make sense? And can we please limit the personal attacks? This goes for me as well, though I have been trying to not retaliate to all the crap people are spewing about me because it fills the thread with garbage. It would be nice if those who felt the need to throw out personal attacks would make the same effort.

This thread is always good for a laugh.

Here's what the CBA says on the matter...
Quote:
Payment of such Paragraph 1 Salary shall be in consecutive semi-monthly installments on the 15th and 30th day of each month following the commencement of the NHL Regular Season or following the dates of reporting, whichever is later (provided that the pay period shall not close more than three (3) days prior to payroll dates); provided, however, that if the Player is not in the employ of the Club for the whole period of the Club's NHL Regular Season Games, then he shall receive only part of such Paragraph 1 Salary in the ratio of the number of days of actual employment to the number of days of the NHL Regular Season.
|
If I'm reading that correctly, if he isn't signed by the start of the regular season, he would get a prorated salary based on how many days of the season he's under contract. This year, the season runs from October 12 to April 9, which is 180 days.
For every day after October 12 that he isn't signed, he'll be giving up 1/180th of his annual salary.

I'm getting a weird feeling that we're in a catfish situation here now. Where are Nev and Max?

All they get during training camp is the standard per diem and accommodations provided by the team. If they choose to live at home during camp (which I assume most of the veterans do), they don't receive additional compensation for accommodations.

I'm saying that I think from his side that is a prohibitive risk. My argument is couched in the belief that the Flames are poised to have a successful start to the season even without him in the lineup, and this potentially weakens his negotiating position.
