I think if it was Carlyle it would be done already - management would be familiar enough with him that if they felt he was the guy it would have been done quick.
Great news to hear that we interviewed Kruger - means he is available and looking to return to the league.

Still feel like Boughner is on the list as well and they are waiting for the cup finals to finish to give him an interview.

great to see a tangible link to Kruger and not just a name being tossed around. Takes some of the fear of the Carlyle talk out of things.

I suppose this (the lack of any information on coaches being interviewed) happens when you get rid of the local beat writers. There's simply nobody in Calgary media close enough to the team to get any inside information as everything we get now comes from Toronto media. Unless of course you believe Eric "Boudreau will be names head coach next week book it " Francis is a Flames insider.

Is it a pipe dream to hope that we could land a former bench boss (Kruger) as a head coach and also end up with one of the coveted up and comers (Green) as an associate?

Hmm we interviewed Kruger and Brad Shaw is available as an associate.
Makes this a little more interesting - looks Shaw was Kruger's add as an as associate to Team Europe for the World Cup.
https://www.nhl.com/news/brad-shaw-n...urope/c-792799
If the pairing ends up being Kruger and Shaw as an associate to him then that would be a pretty good pairing.

Krueger would be great. The Oilers best coach in the past 10 years. Still can't believe they let him go.

That's basically our dream coaching team, but I'm not so sure that Green would take being an NHL associate with the Flames over being an NHL head coach somewhere else.

Though if we hired Kreuger as head coach first, perhaps Green would welcome the opportunity to learn from such an experienced coach and head sports organization management guy.

Heard this afternoon Kirk Muller likely not returning to #stlblues.

I think Flames next HC will be Brad Shaw. He's getting a head coaching job somewhere because he left the Blues. Learned from one of the greatest to coach in the NHL in Hitchcock.

Did he not sign an extension yesterday?

I now really want a Kruger and Shaw pairing dammit.
Kruger seems to really do a good job of motivation, and understanding the team make up.

Shaw is a great defensive coach that has a team PK ranking of 7, 7, 2 , 7, 3 for the past 5 seasons. A top 10 PK every season - I'll take it.

Muller must think he has a decent chance at a head coaching job if he's saying no to the Blues.

Agreed

Would have to think he stays put even if it's only a likely scenario that he takes over for Hitchcock.

Moving now says good chance at a current job, or that the Blues told him zero interest and he wants to get the move done now rather than wait a calendar year.

Kruger/Muller/Gelinas?

That or he thought he had an agreement with Armstrong to coach the Blues next season and was caught off guard with Hitchcock getting another extension. Personally from what I have read he did a terrible job in Carolina and I would rather the Flames go with Carlyle if it came to Muller. I'm not exactly sure what Muller has done to be on any list of hot coaching prospects. At least Carlyle got his team's in the playoffs and won.

Typically when an assistant coach gets promoted to head coach on the same team the results are less than expected. Maybe Kirk knows that and doesn't want to wait one more year to take over for Hitch and would rather set himself into a better position to succeed.

Or at the least term as an assistant as he was only being offered the 1 year.
