I suppose United could pay him more, but how much more makes it worth it?
Not only that, but if you read any interviews with him he's still insanely loyal to Spurs. He's pretty much stated that Madrid was the only place he ever seriously considered leaving for.

personally I don't see Bale a fit at United either. It's probably just paper talk, connecting Bale to the De Gea rumour ... don't think it will happen at all and I'm also one of those that would never ever flip De Gea for Bale, even if they sent a boatload of cash alongside Bale (which would obviously never happen). I guess all this rumour nonsense won't stop until De Gea re-signs (and I'm still very hopeful and optimistic that it will happen) or is sold to Real (which would probably be a standalone deal without Bale or any other player going the other way).

Even though I hate the idea of De Gea to Real simply because of his great play, I'm also just tired of sending top talent to those guys. Beckham, van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo ... enough is enough. Di Maria was really the first top player to go the other way, but let's not forget United sent them a top joker (Chicharito) and a promising right back (Varela) on loan in return in addition to all the money. Would be absolutely fine with doing no more business with Real at all, I still hate that club with every fibre of my body.

On the flip side of that it's worth noting that De Gea was with Atletico since he was a kid.

Ya I don't see it happening, he grew up a Madrid fan essentially, and he brings up Spurs in every interview with English press, says he could one day go back, still cheers against Arsenal etc...

I dont see him wanting to leave Madrid anytime soon, at least 3-4 years

and again United need to strengthen every other position on the pitch (including GK if DDG is in the swap) so it makes no sense

Yeah, Bale to United doesnt make a lot of sense.

Its one of those moves that managers make to get the supporters off their back, like when Real or Barca dont win the Champions' League they have the annual 'look who we bought' nonsense to keep the fans happy.

Its super lame that Liverpool vs. Chelsea isnt on TV, but it looks like Liverpool are going to toe-to-toe with them from the game stats.

Liverpool completely ran the game, just couldn't find enough finish. Courtois also made a couple of brilliant saves. Chelsea didn't have a sniff the entire game outside of a pretty soft penalty call.

The game stats look totally one-sided.

It kind of looked like a website glitch at first.

1 shot and none on target but the game was a 1-1 draw.

Must have had the shot counters from LA last night working in Liverpool

Yeah, similar to what I was thinking, and crediting Mignolet with 0 saves.

You can only infer so much from the game stats thats why I was asking, because without actually seeing it I cant really comment.

Chelsea are in talks to sign Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado from Serie A club Fiorentina, according to Sky sources.

The 26-year-old impressed at last summer's World Cup and has a £26.8m release clause in his contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. It is understood that no formal offer has been made by Chelsea, although there has been speculation that the Premier League leaders had an initial £20.6m bid rejected on Wednesday. There are also reports that Cuadrado's agent, Alessandro Lucci, is set to fly to London with a view to brokering a deal.
sigh.

well, we couldn't care less about your ass, Mr. van Gaal. Signed, every United fan. He's probably just butthurt because of all the 4-4-2 chants.

Quote:
“I know that with 4-4-2, the stats are showing positive results,” Van Gaal said. “We have won more games playing 4-4-2 with a diamond, but when you analyse the game, we have twitched our ass on the bench. I said to my players I was squeezing my ass, but it was the wrong expression – I have twitched my ass on the bench because we were out of balance. When you go back to the press conferences at the time, I have said that we are not in balance [with 4-4-2]. We lost the game against Leicester City 5-3 and that was undeserved, and all the matches when we played 4-4-2, like against West Ham United, it was always twitching your ass and I don’t like it. But maybe then you see, after I switch the system, we have won nine or 10 in a row. Then we lose one match [against Southampton] and the discussion about the system is coming, so it is ridiculous.”

[...]

“He [Di Marķa] played in the 4-4-2 in the left midfield position,” Van Gaal said. “In the 3-5-2, he does not play so much because he has been injured. But he came back and I tried him as a striker because we need also pace in our striker’s position. We have to stretch the pitch – that is also an important aspect of a striker that he can stretch the pitch – and then you make the pitch bigger and your midfielders can play in a bigger space and play a better positional game. I tried that because I didn’t have the preparation time at the beginning of the season.

“Nevertheless, in the last 15 games, we only lost one and that was undeserved. We were the better team. But the players are still not comfortable [with 3-5-2) and it is very important that they are comfortable. I would like them to feel more comfortable, but we have to do our preparation in the season, so we are doing a lot of things during the matches.”

Despite the scrutiny and criticism he has been forced to bear from the club’s supporters and former players including Gary Neville, who claimed 3-5-2 was too slow and risk averse, Van Gaal insists he will not change his approach.

“I have to take into account 600 million opinions?” Van Gaal said. “I have to communicate with my players, observe and analyse my players and my opponent and then I have to make a decision with my staff. But I cannot hear or listen to what the media are writing or what other people are saying or writing because they are never at the training ground and not attending the meetings.”

On a much more positive note, United have been linked with Austrian centre back Aleksandar Dragovic, according to ESPN. Having an Austrian at United would obviously be fantastic to me, but really, he'd be perfect for United. 23 years old, smart player, great with the ball at his feet (A LOT better than Smalling and Evans, but that's not really hard) and surely not too expensive ... he wants to leave Kiev and I'm sure 15m would do the trick. Would be a great addition.

FA Cup ... oh my goodness.

Cambridge - Manchester United 0-0
FC Chelsea - Bradford City 2-4
Manchester City - Middlesbrough 0-2
Southampton - Crystal Palace 2-3
Tottenham - Leicester 1-2

Liverpool goalless at half-time vs Bolton at home too. Crazy stuff.

Great weekend. I love the FA Cups when the big teams go out (when they have arrogant d-bag managers even more fun) and it opens right up, though odds are we'll still be stuck with Arsenal, Liverpool and Man U.

Only 3 premier league teams are already through and they are grifters; Leicester, Palace and West Brom.

6 lower league teams guaranteed through to the 16 and hopefully a couple more pull through.

Nice work by the bantams -that's a crazy result at Stamford Bridge.

So no quad for Jose. At times this week he said it would be a disgrace if they lost today, he also said it would be perfect in that it means less games ahead to worry about for the CL run and winning the League.

They have Liverpool in the Capital One Cup this week too. Lose that and they have even less matches ahead to worry about. Man City next weekend in the league as well, so a busy week, in addition to the transfer window etc etc.

according to the Austrian media, Dragovic to United is pretty much done. "Kurier" and "Krone" are usually very well-informed when it comes to transfers of Austrian players, so I'm inclined to believe there's some truth to it ... I refuse to get excited just yet, but the indications surely are there that the transfer is going to happen.

Also, there's this:

http://api.ning.com/files/aNMwhWs07n...at21.17.31.png

which is Rubin Okotie (a fellow member of the Austrian national team and former teammate of Dragovic at Austria Vienna) posting "hope your transfer is done quickly" after today's test match between his Kiev and Okoties club 1860.

Craziest day I can remember, ever in the FA cup. Top three teams in the PL go out ... at home.

And as much as I enjoyed it particularly with all this talk of the quadruple in January I've got to say that Mourinho handled himself with absolute class in that defeat. Not just in the interview but apparently he went into the Bradford changing room and congratulated them all individually.

No whining, no complaining, just accepting it for what it is. He got FA cupped!
