(Totally off topic), but why did he stop being a center? He still looks pretty good on the faceoffs.

I'm guessing a combination of him being too small to effectively center the top 2 lines along with the added depth the Flames now have at this position.

This just makes me so happy after years of mediocrity down the middle.

If Gaudreau is to stick with the Flames for the full season, I can't see the team having 2 small forwards. So Cammalleri will not be retained in my opinion. I guess with the need to reaching the cap floor, the Flames will be in hunt of a big body money-pit type player like Brad Richards or Rick Nash, or probably someone lesser known.

Any deal like that goes down independent of Gaudreau, as they would likely be draft day deals - certainly prior to the start of the season

I would prefer pursuing and throwing 6M for 3 years at Ryan Callahan and another 4.5M for 2 @ Joni Pitkanen than resigning Cammi.
Also, there are alot of UFA's who can fill that right side up for a year or 2 if we get desperate.
If Cammi doesnt want a shorter term, max 2 years with no NTC or NMC, let him walk.
Infact, as being discussed in the trade rumour thread about detroit, look at trading Cammi's rights, 34 OA, and Wideman(salary retained) for Quincy's rights, 15th OA.
With Legwand and Alfie set to be UFA's, the wings will have al ittle bit of room.

Callahan refused a high AAV and longer term contract from the Rangers... he's not signing for 3 years x 6 mil.

With Hudler and Byron, make that 4 small forwards. It's tough to give up an asset for nothing but it's time we moved on. Cammallari is a good guy and a good player but he isn't a good fit anymore.

Quit playing games and make a point if you have one to make about him. I've clearly stated how I feel he is not worth the investment its going to take to retain him.
Don't like it? Feel free to move along and discuss something else.

My point was that he scored near 30 goals, I thought that was pretty clear.

I think you look at some free agents that aren't as injury prone or one dimensional and for sure the trade route.
Taking on some money in expiring contracts in exchange for prospect or pick upgrades at the draft is a way to hit the floor next season without handcuffing the franchise in two-three years time.

Are you calling Burke stupid? Like it or not, Burke doesn't care about these things all that much. He is not into micromanaging his assets. If he doesn't get the deal he wants he rather not make one.

Yeah, in the first place he wasn't offered a 2nd round draft pick, so he didn't have the choice of turning it down. There were a couple of problems, firstly Cammallari wasn't having a good year and secondly very little buying was happening because of the road block on the Island.

When you look at what players like Vanek, Moulson and Gaborik were traded for you understand what the market looked like and the offers for Cammalleri were obviously much worse. If Burke could have got a 2nd for Cammy I'm sure he would have. At the end of the day though I'm glad he didn't trade him for scraps. Feaster always got undervalue in trades and I'm sure GMs took notice and knew he wasn't a tough negotiator when it came to trades.

Not that I totally disagree with everything you're saying, but how do we know this? I don't recall definition on what the offers were.

The guys at Fan960 were saying that nobody was willing to pay what Burke wanted. By the time Burke dropped the price, they run out of time.
Speculation was that 2nd round pick was not being offered.
2nd round pick may have happened but they run out of time.

You can look at what better players fetched and get a decent idea. You can also assume that since certain players did move that the market for Cammy might have narrowed. I think Burke would have taken a 2nd for Cammy but even if he didn't you can pretty safely assume that was the absolute most that would have been offered. Based on that Id say it's more likely we wernt offered a 2nd for him but who knows for sure.
