@Phanuthier: Yes, that's correct. It would be on Las Vegas Boulevard. I never actually took a cab when traversing up and down the strip, I just asked the cabbie whether it indeed costs $20 from one end to the other in which case he laughed at me and told me the above estimated costs.
The bus I think I read somewhere was $8?

$8 for a 24 hour pass, or $20 for 3 days.

Booked Flamingo,
Found a promo code which brought the average price of the room down to $55/night. I then plugged the confirmation into my Total Rewards Account, and they have me booked into a Neapolitan Suite.
Has anyone stayed in one? Would it be worth trying the $20 trick to see if I could get an upgrade on that suite?
Also 3-day monorail pass, worth it or no?

I doubt it will be worth it. Depends how often you would use to get to MGM or all the way north (Sahara). The monorail is usually a long walk from the strip and through the casino to get to. It's not worth taking for short distances because it's usually just as quick to walk on Las Vegas Boulevard.

I find there's just as much walking to get to the Monorail as there is to just walk. I personally just take cabs, and I go about 3-4 times a year. I normally go for business but I will be going January 20th for a little vacation. Make sure if you get any kind of suite at Flamingo to ask if it has a fold up bed- because a lot of the older hotels do that and they are brutally uncomfortable- they will tell you it's a couch you can fold out to a bed but it's like sleeping with a pole up your back. My rule is if they are going to give me a suite, I ask if it's a 'real bed.'

yeah, I wouldn't get the monorail pass, instead budget a tad more for cabs, you'll get where you want to get quicker and easier, there's no such thing as a cab shortage in vegas, as far as I'm aware.

A rental car for 4 days will probably be $80 if you book it at least a week early, FYI
I always drive when I'm in LV (granted, I'm not really there to gamble and spend the majority of my time away from the stripe)
Let me know if you want recommendations for places to eat off the stripe, which IMO is better food... also if you want to save money, I know a guy who charges $15 per night to rent a room with him.

Fold up bed? Like as the main King size bed?

Whilst this is bumped - I am going to Vegas on Jan 17th . There is a Flames/Ducks game that week. Where can you get to see the game with other hockey fans? I have seen the games on one big screen but no sound. I want to take my friend (who is from England and has been to one Flames game when she visited here but she knows I'm officially obsessed) but its only any good if there is sound, I think. Thank you

Couple times ago when I was there we watched a flames game (with other Flames fans) at that street side bar thing that was right by the dennys/mcdonalds/stage thing by Flamingo/Oshea's.
Or maybe it wasn't anywhere near there.... I was pretty loaded the entire time. And now that I think about it that place might be gone now.... don't really remember much of that last trip either

I think Ceasers is the best place for watching games. They would very likley have the game on the a big screen but the sound (like all sports books) will be on a basketball game, be it NBA or College.

i would think that ti would have to be a very light night is sports to get the flames game (with sound) at a sports book.
you might have more luck at a smaller pub (sorry, i have no recommendations for a smaller pub)

ESPN Zone at NYNY. was the best place to watch any sport game you wanted but unfortunately it doesn't exist anymore. As others have said, sportsbooks is an option, but the chances of getting the sound are really low.
What are the options to watch online?

Well, I haven't been in either place, but try Blondies at Planet Hollywood or TAP at MGM Grand. Supposed to have a lot of TVs there. If possible you may want to contact them before hand to see if you would be able to watch the game there.

Any estimation for what would be a good price for 4 nights in early or mid April? Right now it's looking like aroun $850-$900 per person for flights/accommodation for somewhere like NYNY or the Venetian (respectively).
Going with a crew of couples, some who haven't been to Vegas. I like the Venetian, and the pool is much better than NYNY, but these prices seem a bit high compared to what I'm used to (though to be fair, I'm never exactly sure what past Vegas trips have cost me).
Maybe I'm just not comparing apples to apples, because I'm usually gone to Vegas with boys only, 4 to a room type of thing, and someone else has always arrange the hotels with me reimbursing them directly.

^ that price does not seem unreasonable to me - but my guess is that some folks will come out an say how they went for $500......i think if you look at a hotel room, you are paying around $60 per night just for that.
you can save money if you are willing to fly a non-direct route at a odd time.

Since I posted a couple days ago January prices have remained the same but February and March prices have all jumped by $100-$150 per person. Must have been a seat sale that ended.

I used FlightHub to book my flights, it found me a convoluted but cheap airfare. It might not be as effective for you as there are direct flights from Calgary (coming from Nova Scotia it's not as simple).
Search for promo codes for the hotels, I found a promo code that saved us $30/night at the Flamingo.
Sign up for a rewards card now (if you haven't already done so). Put that in when you book your room. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to see I was instantly upgraded to a suite despite having never ever used the card and had a grand total of 0 points on it.
That's all the Vegas advice I have, and it's basically what I've learned from experience, talking to people, and reading this thread.
That is anyone going to be in Vegas the week of March 15?
