There is always a big gap between matches, in every league.
It's much like american football where teams mostly play once a week.

You are incorrect on your assessment that players don't need 5 days off between matches. It would be impossible to play every day or 2 like hockey or basketball.

I honestly do love the World Cup, but this sport would be so much better without the constant diving / theatrics.

It was embarrassing for all involved. I've watched many of the matches so far and not all of them are bad. But there have been a couple real doozies.

Ronaldo is a freak. It only took him 4 minutes to score.

Good game so far, I like the pushback from Morocco.

Morocco played really well but they couldn't finish. Only a couple of shots on target despite controlling the play for the entire second half.

I'd be fully in favour of retroactive discipline for all of the BS simulation that goes on. If the cameras catch you diving and/or making a meal of it, just dish out cards and suspensions after the game.

The trouble is, it is so ingrained in footballing culture. "Sure, he dove before contact to get a penalty, but on the way down he grazed the leg of the defender, so contact = penalty." Pundits, supporters, players, etc. all justify the diving. Even the players know that their dives are being caught in glorious 4k and then splashed across social media, but "part of the game" and "doing what he needs to to win" and all of that.

due to all the running, a player can run 10km per game. 5 days is a bit long because the 8 groups have to be played. But later on it'll be shorter.

A team will play a R16, QF, SF and Final in 12 days. And if any of those games go to extra time that's an extra 30 minutes of running.

I havent looked at the brackets but I selfishly want to see a match of Uruguay vs. Belgium.

Did Suarez bite Fellaini in the elbow or did Fellaini elbow Suarez in the teeth?

A question for the ages!

Already significantly better from the Saudis, not that that bar was very high or anything.

Suarez will be hard pressed to score an easier goal than that one.

Seriously? You're going to leave Luis Suarez wide open at the far post for a complete tap-in? Thats a bold strategy.

Suarez, Kane and Ronaldo have all had far post tap-ins this tournament. Given how vital set pieces are in international tournaments, appalling defending to say the least.

Time to go back to 'Grade-School' defending.

"Put defenders on the posts!"

"Japan fans impress by cleaning up stadium"

Of course it's the Japanese that do that. Other cultures could learn from this.

i'm looking forward to the match at lunch. Can Iran do something with a win under their belt. Chance of a lifetime to advance out of this impossible group. Best defense in the world, can they prove it? Spain might have 90% possession

Well Iran really have nothing to lose, even if they got blown out 10-0 they still need to just beat Portugal and they advance. So maybe with this being a nothing game, they can go all out.

that is true. i'm not sure 2 draws would be enough for Iran. You could have 3 teams on 5 points and they would still miss out.
