FWIW, Flames have a scout at the Avs/Caps game.
Avs a potential 1st round opponent and maybe a seller if they continue to free fall.
Chris Kuc @ChrisKuc
Assigned scout seats for Capitals-Avalanche at Capital One Arena:
Arizona
Calgary
Nashville
Toronto

Well, there should be a credit to the source of a photo of it is from a copyrighted source like Getty or AP or such. There should be a credit to the source of the broadcast the footage came from if it is not hosted through a secondary source like youtube or twitter. An attribution to a poster on a discussion board or reddit is a new one, seeing as the information is likely not primary source in the first place, nor is there a claim to copyright. Interesting concept and worthy of discussion/exploration.

Interesting, could be the flames scouting couple of their Dmen. Avs shouldn’t be sellers tho imo, you already have a high pick (possible first) coming next year and still very much in the playoff hunt. Their lack of depth scoring is killing them

They have one of the best lines in hockey yet struggling for a playoff spot. Goaltending has not been good. As you mentioned their scoring depth is not that great. Is their D good? debatable.
Are a couple of trade deadline adds going to change the fortunes of the team?
Depends on how flawed you think the Avs are.
They might be better off saving the assets for the summer and doing a re-tool then.

2019 1st
2020 2nd*
Andrew Mangiapane
for
Mark Stone
*2020 2nd turns into a 2020 1st if the Flames are able to re-sign Mark Stone
That's a fair price for a rental IMO.
I'm not keen on rentals, but in this case the player is still only 27 and the Flames would have a decent shot at re-signing him. The Flames could also recover some draft picks later on because they would need to clear some salary to fit Stone in going forward, and would have some valuable pieces to trade this summer, especially if guys like Frolik and/or Neal finish the season and playoffs strong.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Stone
Frolik - Jankowski - Neal
Bennett - Ryan - Hathaway
Yummy.

I am still very interested in acquiring Marcus Johansson. He is one of my favourite players and can fit in very nicely with Tkachuk and Backlund. I wonder if 3rd+Mangiapane would get it done..

Insider trading:
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...-canes~1606557
contenders are frustrated by the high prices attached to the bigger rental names
Boston and Nashville checked in on Panarin and had sticker shock
as time goes on prices should go down especially if Stone and Duchene are added to the available players
Leafs AGM spotted scouting the Canes twice over the last couple of weeks
LeBrun is unsure if they are looking at a RHD or Ferland
Quinn Hughes (Van 1st rounder) and Dante Fabrro (Nash 1st rounder) are expected to go pro as soon as their respective NCAA seasons are done. Fabbro could be used as a trade chip.
Kovalchuk is open to being traded
has a full NMC
going to be a tough sell for contending teams with 2 more years still on his deal

Craig Custance has Calgary at #4 on his top 5 destinations for Panarin
https://theathletic.com/806008/2019/...-destinations/
Quote:
“A team like Calgary would be interesting because it gives you another guy who plays like a center to control the middle of the rink on another line,” said the coach. “Whether you play him with Gaudreau or away from Gaudreau, it’s a win.”
The Flames have their first-round pick but not a ton of organizational depth when it comes to young players to build a package around.

Honestly, I would be open to a Neal for Kovalchuk deal. Less years on the contract while I think Neal can play the slow and big game that the Kings are known for.
put Kovalchuk on a line with Gaudreau and watch him score 90 goals.

Maybe we can add a sweetener?
I dunno, I also feel like Neal is kind of our rabbits foot, so would be torn.

If you were looking to destroy the room (which is, by all accounts, currently awesome), I would think that acquiring Kovalchuk would be one of the top 10 best ways to do it, and probably right near the top.

Weve been scouting the caps for a while now, said a few weeks back that we are deeply interested in Burakovsky. Flames want a speedy scoring winger, a 3rd line center and depth dman.
Getting Burakovsky checks that speedy scoring winger.

Yeah, he is. They hung out together when Burakovsky had his day with the Cup this summer.

What is this part based on? Your guess or some inside info?
Flames recently had a scout at the COL/CBJ game, so we could be scouting Colorado and not WSH.
