It's not a question of how valuable Cozens is. It's a question of whether a particular team has the particular assets Buffalo is looking for in exchange. The Flames and Sabres are both looking for similar things, so they're bad trade partners.

Meh, without contract consideration he is worth about what Kakko was when he was traded. But we do consider contracts, and Kakko's was much better for the acquiring team, especially if it didn't work out.

There are seven million reasons why Cozens is as much a project as he is a cap dump.

Yeah. I think Cozens is likely 1 year of current play away from being solely considered a reclamation project. At which point, his return is likely close to what Bennett or Kakko returned.

Buffalo’s problem with even getting that kind of value in return for cozens is his contract that has a hefty AAV with plenty of term left. Not only will it be hard to find a suitor but it’ll only become harder the longer they wait.

The additional suggestion on that Dobson available rumour, was that Lou might be interested in revisiting a 1-2 punch of Horvat-Petterson.

That would be mean Dobson-Nelson going one way, and something like Petterson-+ going the other. Vancouver would be such a wreck.

Probably not Dobson-Nelson. Nelson is a 33 year old UFA and not what Vancouver would want at all.

Moving forward, McCann is the kind of pickup that gives me nightmares. The kind teams spend a first plus prospect on for a cup run but he's not so great as to guarantee impact.

I've seen it before that teams are asking Boston about Marchand's availability. I saw again today on reddit that Vegas is interested in Marchand. Interesting.


I don't see why Marchand would want to leave Boston. He's near the end of his career and has a cup, why not stay in Boston?

It's probably the other way around.

Marchand is 36 and a upcoming UFA. Boston is not having a good season and might not want to re-sign him.

They could get a haul for him at the deadline.

It's probably less about Marchand wanting to stay and more about Boston turning the page on the last piece of the old core.

Marchand is hyper competitive. He wants to win more, and he has a much better chance of a deep playoff run with VGK than BOS.

It's kind of interesting. I almost hope they do it- Marchand will be in for the playoffs and then probably be checked out again after. If they pay a lot, could put them in a worse situation next season when we have their pick unprotected...
