I'd say hit up any of the toss up or leaning UCP ridings and add your volunteer support there.

"We did it, Calgary! We set fire to about a billion dollars of your money! Vote for us!"
Gee whiz, no thanks, Danielle.

I think this is easily diffused for Notley though. Just chime in and say that you support the deal and think it’s great for the city, etc. Politically, that’s a no-brainer. I’m personally not thrilled about it, but now that a deal is done I’m also personally supportive and think it sounds like an exciting project. The NDP can’t very well be against this now?

Technically it wasn't set on fire, it was just our tax dollars gift wrapped and handed to people who make far more money than any of us will see in our lives, so they can make far more money than any of our decedents will ever see in their lives. The system works!

I'm sure the strategy team is worknig on this full time tonight. I agree it shouldn't be hard to neutralize, but you never know with politicians.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley said her party is committed to revitalizing Calgary's downtown, but she also took note of the the project's growing price tag.
"And while the original version laid out a 50-50 private-public partnership, taxpayers are now responsible for more than 70 per cent of the cost," Notley said in a statement.
"The commitment has increased. We believe all voters would expect their elected representatives to do due diligence on the economics and fiscal value of a capital project this size."
Notley said the NDP would review the deal and consult with Albertans in the coming days.

I wonder if this blatant bribery backfires.

Its funny because it probably doesn't matter too much, it seems half the people like it and half hate the price tag. I doubt this moves the needle much.
You know, those people who are fiscal conservatives and concerned with the price tag like the NDP. And those who like the flash and willing to spend like drunken sailors, you know, the UCP.

Probably best to play their cards close to the vest. The Smith government has plenty of internal critics.

One would hope this blatant vote buy moves the needle to orange outside of Calgary but alas, this is Alberta

We saw Calgarians get upset the last time a politician tried to carry water for csec. Will be interesting to see if that's the case again

We're also the city that voted against bidding on the Olympic games, which would have given us a lot more infrastructure at a much lower percentage of the overall costs.

Even the polls on CP, a bastion of support for the Flames, have generally been against the handouts. Smith has greatly overestimated the positive political impact from this. It's much more likely to be greatly negative.

If Calgary is home to the mythical fiscally conservative socially liberal voter then this deal will hurt votes.
Just give us 300 million more for trains.

Hey, don't discount all the posters who are offering up compelling arguments for the arena such as, "shut up and enjoy it." They're about to turn the tide of public opinion. I can really feel it.

I'm not even upset at the arena deal, maybe because we've known for over a decade it was never going to be a good deal so I've just accepted it.
What I don't understand is the same people that throw a temper tantrum and shout "muh taxes" if a city worker stops for a coffee break are the same ones applauding this level of corporate welfare and telling everyone else to just get over it
