Sure, except he didn’t make 10.5 last year and there were a lot of people who claimed he pouted or floated or both. I never saw either.

I’m not sure the fact that his 8 year contract did not start until this year is particularly relevant. Should posters have expected less last year?

Facts are facts - he made half of that last year. And the fact also remains that a lot of posters claimed he was floating.

Puljujarvi's two way game is solid. Not good at finishing though, but who knows - maybe it could click.
Good article on him.
Quote:
Puljujarvi’s impact on scoring chances at both ends of the ice is remarkable. Adjusted for teammates, competition, zone starts, etc., the Oilers create a lot more chances and prevent a lot more chances against when he’s on the ice, and those results have been consistent across his past two seasons. Despite the fact that he has struggled on the powerplay and ranks very poorly in terms of finishing his scoring chances, he still grades out as having a very strong impact.
|
Quote:
Despite a relative lack of production, a big reason that many analytically-inclined fans think so highly of Puljujärvi is the way that McDavid and Draisaitl perform better with him on the ice. For example, this season, the combo of McDavid and Puljujarvi outscored opponents 34 to 15 when they were on the ice together, but McDavid without Puljujärvi only outscored them 39 to 35. Scoring chance and shot metrics told a similar story; while Puljujärvi obviously isn’t the driver on these lines it seems undeniable that something in his game helps Connor be his best self.
|
If the Flames can sign him, they absolutely should. He may not be a Nichushkin level find, but I think he is a "fixer" much in the same way prime Frolik was. It would be found money.

Absolutely not. The guy just isn't cut out for the NHL. He should go and carve out a career in Europe.

Is he really an upgrade over Sharangovich to bump him out of the lineup?
I don't think so he is a dumb hockey player.

Sure it’s a fact, but a completely irrelevant one. He was already guaranteed $84M on his next contract. Now that’s a relevant fact.

...did anyone read the article I just posted?
He's not a dumb hockey player. He's a defensively responsible smart hockey player that has problems finishing.
It would be great to dunk on Edmonton by having Puljujarvi end up being a good NHL'er as a Flame.

Noselicker is coming off an insane surgery x 2 - there’s no way he gets back to 100%.
Much like Monahan those hips will forever have issues that keep him in and out of the lineup constantly.

I'd consider Puljujarvi on a "show me" deal assuming the Flames doctors like what they see. Put him on LTIR until healthy and not rush things. He is a third liner at the NHL level, but his possession/defensive numbers prior to last season were excellent. Not sure who he displaces, but I'd let the players sort that out for themselves over the next couple months.

And he has 2 points one game into his guarantees $84M contract (and is on pace for 164pts...yeah yeah small sample size). That's also a relevant fact.

Just heard the "goal-a" song on fan960 the other day where Glencross was a prominent member. Would love an updated version with pool party.

If he couldn’t figure it out in Carolina with Rod as a coach, why would he suddenly figure it out here?

It’s an easy narrative to lean on because the guy looks like a doofus.

He played 17 games due to hip problems. Just recovering from surgery.

I would be in favour of a try-out contract with Puljujarvi - nothing to lose. I think the chances of him ever being an effective NHLer again are fairly low, but at no cost, with the FU EDM factor on top, why not?
