I believe Kadri wants to stay, can nix a deal, etc. But doesn't this kind of line up as a three way with Buffalo?
Problem is I think Conroy really wants to give this team a chance, and I don't know if Buffalo or Colorado will wait until the offseason.

In the offseason I could see something like.

Colorado: Kadri
Calgary: Cozens
Buffalo: Mittelstadt /Ross + ???

Something like that. But I just don't see the Flames really approaching Kadri to move right now.

Time will tell I guess...
Imagine how much credit the Flames would get around the league's players if Conroy were to fly with them in a private jet to wherever Philly is.

Kadri to Colorado makes sense, and obviously Cozens to Calgary, but I don't think this works out...

Buffalo probably doesn't want Mittelstadt back, he's regressed since they traded him, would be a step backwards.

I don't think the Flames move Kadri now either, even if it meant getting Cozens. Would probably send the wrong message to the room about the rest of this season.

What? Why would Buffalo want Mittelstadt back after just trading him away.

There have actually been some rumours in the Buffalo market that they felt like they might have moved the wrong guy and should have kept Mittelstadt who actually wanted to be there (he wanted a longer term deal instead of the bridge), and should have probably kept him and moved Cozens.

There would need to be a + there for sure, but overall not sure they would be 100% opposed to bringing him back. Sell high and then buy low to bring him back.

They did get Byram and did have Thompson and Cozens to build around. If they trade Cozens, they probably would be interested in a 2nd line center.

Mittlestadt produces similarly to Cozens and has a cheaper contract. If they get a decent + is this not good asset management?

Just reading the Kylington article about how Washington inadvertently really screwed him over.

I'd gleefully welcome him back to CGY if they brought him back. He should have been the LD for Weegar. Kylington isn't the greatest defensively but I also have seen with my own eyes him covering up a bunch of mistakes his teammates made and vice versa.

Remember when fans were praying the Flames would get Holtz, if not Mercer, back in a trade with the Devils for Markstrom?

I think a more realistic trade would be Kadri straight up for Mittlestadt. I can't see Buffalo wanting to trade for him back.

"you should be sterilized"

That seems overly harsh...lol.

I'd still take a chance on him if the price is low. He just turned 23 two weeks ago and had 16 goals last season. He isn't breaking out like a top 10 pick, but he still has some runway.

I don't recall many fans 'praying' for Holtz. The conversation was primarily NJD fans saying Holtz is a fair price, and Flames fans saying no, we want Mercer.

In the end, we got Bahl, who slots somewhere in between.

Middelsadt profiles as a winger capable of playing center. His defensive acumen just isn't that great. The last thing that calgary needs is more wingers.

I think it was just the Devils and their fans who wanted to do Markstrom for Holtz, then had a fit when Conroy said no.

Conroy should inquire about the availability of Connor Bedard in Chicago.

It never hurts to ask.

Was crazy to me how many in the national media were bemoaning that CGY couldn't get Holtz for Markstrom. Almost all saw Bahl as far less valuable. Never, ever made sense to me.

Like every offseason, there will be more options for trades in June/July/August. Especially this year with the upcoming cap bump. I could even see a bigger deal that works for both teams depending on how things go. What about this:

To Colorado:
Kadri
Andersson (50% retained)

To Calgary:
Middlestat
Ritchie
1st round pick

Colorado retools on the fly in their competitive window - bolstering their top 6 forwards and their defence in one move. Calgary gets a top centre prospect and another an NHL centre on a reasonable contract while also getting younger.

That’s somehow awful for both teams.

That would be the absolute fork in the season. If we won ten games I would be surprised.
