Inferno has been beaten already. And if you go the long haul, Hell can be beaten without the aution house. It just will take time (and that urge NOT to go into the AH).

the one with the flames coming up from the floor, or fire chains.
Wallers and electrics are just annoying rather than being dangerous, the rest are kind of in between

I finished a Barb in normal, and now running one through Hardcore. I just heard that a a barb can be pretty tough in Hell and Insane compared to the other classes, to the point where it is impossible, should I give up on my Hardcore Act 2 Barb now?
Any comments?
Also, the flames that come out under the butcher blow, nothing like playing on hardcore and watching your wizard ally low on health get a grabbling hook to the stomach and pulled to the butcher standing in flames.
Why do potions take so long to refresh?????

I also don't like the teleport or the ones that throw the fire bombs at you.

For my DH, mortars seem to be the worst, but wallers can be annoying if they are in the right combination with anything else.

You mean nightmare? Hardcore is permadeath.
As for potions, I totally agree, but it is essential to prevent potion spam while still keeping with the flavor of a Diablo style game. I think the big thing for me was drilling it into my head to leave health globes until I actually needed them. As a Demon Hunter, I kite most of the time so having a globe sitting a little ways behind where i am clearing is really useful.
ON a side note, doubled both my HP (to 10k) and my damage (to 1300) last night. Nightmare was getting a bit tough, mostly on elites, so I finally upgraded some pieces that I had for 20+ levels. MF is pretty good, I have about 120 right now in my MF gear and about 95 in normal gear. If I wasn't saving cash for Staff of Herding, I would be able to easily put that up an extra 30-40 points. What MF does everyone else run at?

Ok, just seemed like you were putting Hardcore as what you did after normal but before Hell or Inferno.
I admire people that play Hardcore, but I don't know if I could play like that. I don't have time to sit and play and suddenly have a dozen or 2 hours of work flushed down the toilet for whatever reason. I guess if you play a lot more cautious, repeated some of the easier runs to make sure you had gear and levels for the harder stuff and are not worried about quitting a game if you come up against an elite that will rip you apart, it wouldn't be too bad.
How does AH work for hardcore? I assume it is totally seperate? The stash still works, but items can only be used by hardcore or regular characters, rgiht?

I actually have no idea how AH works in hardcore, haven’t tried it in normal yet. I was thinking about this, if for some fluke reason it is the same AH, you could trade gear between hardcore and normal, and that would be a huge advantage.
I switch to Hardcore in D2 and found I couldn’t actually go back to normal because it seemed pointless (after years of playing the same old game, normal seemed boring and hardcore made it exciting again by adding a huge new threat). Since D3 is new, I think normal mode will be fun for years still, but I still have to play hardcore off and on because of the nerd thrill.
Has anyone heard about Barb limitations in the later difficulties? I am just wondering if I should quit my hardcore barb now and switch to a more conservative character.
Which character do you find is the easiest to stay alive? With the barb, that vengeance keeps me alive pretty good.

I have only played DH, and I find it very hard to stay alive at times. Mostly that is because certain tactics seem to become useless as things become more difficult. Once the gear ramps up to match the difficulty and I get used to whatever new tactics I need to use, then things become easier. The class really isn't bad, but from what I have read is the hardest to play. My reading has lead me to believe that of the 5 classes, Wizards and Monks are best suited for Inferno at the present time, although the recent nerf might impact monks a little bit. SHOGUN, who posted above, claims it shouldn't so I am trusting him on that.

considering that Inferno has already been beaten by many people before the real money AH has opened up, i doubt it

I would use the term beaten loosely. Inferno has been cheesed so far.

funny, on the monk forums you see plenty of posts complaining about how useless monks are in inferno, while they point to wizards having an easy go of things

Monks were previously good on Inferno because they were using an exploit that made them (and their entire party) nearly permenantly invulnerable.
There was a Monk ability that, when activated, provided everyone in the group with a shield that absorbed damage equal to 15% of their maximum health. It had no cooldown, so you were only limited by your ability to regenerate spirit. Combine this ability with a set of gear with high HP and spec your character for ultra-fast spirit regen, and your entire group was effectively invincible. This was nerfed in a hotfix yesterday, and the ability will be redesigned to provide a benefit that isn't quite so overpowered.
I'm on Act II of Hell difficulty right now, and I've recently specced and geared my Monk in such a way that survivability is much less of a problem now. I'm not using the highest dps build, but I have the following benefits:
~50% dodge
~55% damage reduction from armour
~45% resistance to all forms of damage
On top of that, my primary attack reduce enemy attack speed and damage by 20%.

The first groups to "beat" Inferno mode basically didn't kill anything except the act bosses. They corpse hopped their way though entire acts just to get to the bosses, and then just threw themselves at the bosses over and over. They didn't even farm their own gear. They had teams of people farming gear for them and feeding them upgrades.

The one thing I am enjoying so far in this game is simply toying around with different builds on my main character (Wiz). Some days I feel like speccing for cold, some fire, some AoE etc. Nice to be able to tweak to my playstyle that day... The ISSUE I have is that I can already see the incentive to re-roll another Wiz is completely gone, whereas in Diablo 2 I would try different specs for classes on a hunch or to suit a play style i wanted... It's not necessarily a bad thing these days as I don't have countless hours to throw at it.
I can see how many "hardcore" gamers are seeing the end of the tunnel a little too quickly though. I am sure Blizz will add some DLC or expansions to fix this... They seem to have figured out how to insert pavlovian appeal into their games fairly well!

what is your DPS? i just finished nightmare and my stats are comparable to yours (not as much dodge though) and i'm sitting at just over 4000 dmg when buffed (the healing spirit rune that boosts my dmg by 15%, and the passive that does 8%)
