Team Wishwedidaporndraft is very happy to select into the Comedy category, the Farrely brothers classis, DUMB and DUMBER
Jim Carey at his best, being an idiot. This 1994 laugh riot was easily the Farrel Brother's best(Kingpin is awfully close). There really no point discussing what's great about this movie, I'll let the youtube clips do the talking.
Most Annoying Sound in the World and Mocking-Bird Scene
He says the sun came out last night. He says it sang to him.
For my next selection, Hot Buttery Topping is pleased to select in the Sci-Fi category, Steven Spielberg's 1977 film about alien contact, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Trailer...
Richard Dreyfuss stars as Roy Neary an electrical lineman who has a late-night encounter (of the first kind) with a strange light in the sky. This leads to an encounter of the second kind, when he chases three strange ships that have been flying along the road. Soon, Roy becomes obsessed with his encounters as well as a strange flat-topped pillar he can't get out of his mind (or his mashed potatoes). Roy's wife (Teri Garr) becomes concerned about his behaviour, and eventually leaves him, taking their three children with her.
One day, Roy sees a news report from Devil's Tower Monument in Wyoming and recognizes it as the strange shape that has been burned into his mind. Roy decides to go to Wyoming, where he's sure something big is about to happen. In Wyoming, Roy finds he is not alone in his pilgrimage, joined by other people who have had similar encounters, as well as members of the US government who have prepared a welcoming committee for the alien visitors.
Eventually, the mothership arrives, and Roy gets to experience the third type of encounter...

Reason: Added details
As you probably all could have guessed this was on my radar too. One of my favourite 'silly' movies but Holy Grail just beats this one out and was my required Python pick.
Great choice.
Yea I would have taken Holy Grail as well but since it was gone I went with my second favorite. Monty Python are just geniuses.

Seriously a great pick.....an amazing movie that is shocking to have been still available! Good call Getbak!
The MacGuffins are proud to select, with the 238th overall pick in the 9th round, for entry in the Action category:
Kill Bill: Vol 2
Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
Of course he did.
Why didn't you tell me?
I don't know... because I'm a bad person.
No. You're not a bad person. You're a terrific person. You're my favorite person, but every once in a while, you can be a real c***.
Quentin Tarantino is the best in the world when it comes to paying homage to classic genres and films while still giving his own films a personal touch, and the Kill Bill films are arguably the best example of Tarantino doing just that. But while Vol. 1 went perhaps a little overboard with its over the top action sequences and fanboy references, Vol. 2 settles down and becomes more character driven, giving the entire 4 hour saga much more depth. Vol. 1 gets all the gory glory, but I feel Vol. 2 is the superior film!
While the first entry was primarily an homage to the classic martial arts films of the 70's, this one could be classified as Tarantino's tribute to Leone's "spaghetti westerns" of the late 60's. It has all the makings of a typical QT film- wonderfully awesome dialogue, chopped-up/non-linear narrative sequencing, breathes new life into forgotten actors (notably David Carradine, who is excellent), and employs various quirky cinematic techniques to help tell the story (split screens, changing aspect ratios, overdubbing, etc.). All too often, when directors use multiple "tricks" like this, they come off as unnecessary and forced. But in a Tarantino movie they make sense, and in his expert hands they work hand in hand with the narrative and enhance things greatly.
Another criticism of Tarantino movies is that they are too dialogue-dependent, and that people don't talk in reality the way they do in his films. But in a straight up "revenge movie," like Kill Bill, that argument doesn't hold much weight, especially when the dialogue is as good as it is here. It helps to flesh out the backstory as much as the flashbacks and visual style of the film, resulting in a completeness that is lacking after seeing the first installment on its own. Kill Bill Vol. 2 is a popcorn movie, sure, but it's ambitious, imaginative filmmaking at its best, and one of the most fun movies I've ever seen.

It figures that you would pick this one. Your choice in movies is eerily similar to mine. I was thinking that Close Encounters might be slipping through the cracks and I might get to grab it for my sci-fi pick after my No.1 choice, 12 Monkeys, went last round. Of course not!
First off - I hate you Ro. That was my next pick after a little shuffling. Now I must move on. Great pick. Now back to the draft....
Team Lucky the Donkey is elated to pick in the category of Comedy, Will Ferrell's opus - Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
By the beard of Zeus!
I searched and didn't find it, so let me know if it's Fata. This is a love it or hate it movie in my experience. People tend to think it's a comedic masterpiece or a total waste of brain space. I happen to think it's the greatest comedy of all time. Every role Ferrell has played since this movie is just a weak attempt at recapturing the awesome that is Ron. The entire news team is amazing, and Fred Willard's throwaway phone conversations regarding his son are genius. That is all, enjoy all the NSFW clips.

A "Best of" clip
If I could I'd just post the entire movie. I'm Resalien, and you stay classy Calgary.
With the 241st Overall pick The All Or Nuttin team is proud to select in the "Western" category a movie starring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and Eli Wallach, The Magnificent Seven.
Great story (adaptation of Seven Samurai), score that is all-time classic, great cast, beautifuly shot, one of the best westerns I have seen.

With the 242nd pick in the Movie Draft, The Ghost of Siskel selects:
in the Documentary category: Hoop Dreams (1994).
Hoop Dreams was released during the glory days of Michael Jordan; when basketball was seemingly growing in popularity exponentially. It opened my eyes to the demands and traps of elite athletes.
Synopsis:
This documentary follows two inner-city Chicago residents, Arthur Agee and William Gates, as they follow their dreams of becoming basketball superstars. Beginning at the start of their high school years, and ending almost 5 years later, as they start college, we watch the boys mature into men, still retaining their "Hoop Dreams". Both are recruited into the same elite high school as their idol, former Detroit Piston superstar Isaiah Thomas. Only one survives the first year; the other must return to a high school closer to his home. Along the way, there is much tragedy, some joy, a great wealth of information about inner city life, and the suspense of not knowing what will occur next. This is not a "by-the-numbers" film.
WTG Tilley, another "real" documentary!
With the 243rd pick in the 9th round, team Wrapped in Plastic also picks in the Documentary category: Stop Making Sense (1984)
"Why stop making sense? Why a movie? Why a big suit? Where do the odd movements come from? What will the band do next?"
With the 244th pick in the 10th round, team Wrapped in Plastic also picks in the MUSICAL category,
Team America: World Police
More to follow...
Back to you, Tilley
Hey Windom,
Not to be picky....but did you really mean for Team America to be in the musical category? IMDB doesn't class it that way and aside from the one number by Kim Il-Jong the only other music in it is background stuff.
Still a great pick - lots in that movie that can only be appreciated after a couple viewings, just don't really understand where you slotted it.
Cheers, JG

Ack! I could have sworn that was listed as a musical when I first researched it a month or so ago. I've always considered it as a Musical or at least a parody of one. Aren't songs like "Montage" done in musical style, rather than just as background? My memory of it might be faulty.
If this doesn't qualify in the category I chose, I'll ask Tilley to hold off and I'll make another selection.
Team America is to Musical as United 93 and Catch Me If You Can are to Non-Fiction, IMO. The music is an important part to that movie. Sure, not everyone breaks out in dance and sings, but still a very important part.
I had thought about it for my musical selection, but thought it wouldn't be worth defending, but here I am, trying for someone else.
I'd just like to point out that the first of WindomURL's two picks was the 243rd pick of 486 in this draft. We're half way, people! Keep up the great work.
In regards to Team America, I'm surprised it isn't listed as a musical. Even if only a couple songs are actually sung on-screen by characters, it has more non-score, original songs in it than some other ones listed as musicals (such as Aladdin). Personally, I wouldn't have a problem permitting it.
