Piastri tried sandbagging the Quali. Lando said nope. Then Ferraris are quick today.

Lando survives turn 1 and is now stretching the lead.
Piastri gets bogged down in turn 1 shenanigans and ends up 8th only passing Tsunoda after lap 10.
Verstappens aggressions didn't do him any favors today. But let's see if there's an advantage to him starting on Mediums and pushing the laps out while everyone else puts at lap 20 ish.

Hamilton's day may be ruined with a 10 second penalty. Where's Max's penalty.
Bearman a shoe in for driver of the day if this keeps up.

So Max and Leclerc leave the track to gain an advantage and don’t give up places but Lewis gets a penalty for not perfectly following the escape road? F1 and their lawless lap 1 rules are so stupid. Leclerc should be in 3rd at best and max should be in 7th or 8th.

The NHL has nothing on F1 and their seemingly arbitrary penalties or lack thereof. Max is so full of horseshoes he didn't get collected on the first lap. His reputation for never giving a quarter seems to play in his favour and guys maybe give him a cm as a result.
Edit: ok maybe Max has one less horseshoe thanks to the stewards and the weird VSC.
Edit 2: love the sign in the stands:
Lewis and Charles, IGNORE the strategy call!!!

We have ourselves a title fight.
I got Lando taking Brasil as well.
I really really wanted a Bearman podium. I missed Verstappens pit stop and was wondering how he stayed out 12 seconds ahead of Bearman.

It's become unwatchable for me. I've not missed a GP telecast since 1980. I quit watching today after the Hamilton penalty. I'm tuning out until next year to see if the rule changes give us good racing.
Bad racing with bad stewards is too much for me. Can't get behind it.

If Charles hadn't stolen second Lewis never would have been in a fight with Max. And somehow Max avoids a penalty again. He was never going to make that turn without bouncing off of Lewis.

What an absolute horse#### VSC. Idiotic. Sainz’s car was 40 yards off the track and off the racing line. Completely robbed us of a legendary finish. Not one but two separate battles ruined. Both with championship implications.

Mexicans booing Lando. So weird.
Alonso has DNF’d at 4 straight races in Mexico.

Yeah, Sainz doing his old buddy LeClerc a solid there. That VSC was total BS, especially if Max comes up 3 points short at the end of the year. Same goes for Piastri.

Odd that nothing came of Leclerc taking that place from Hamilton. Maybe I need to go back and watch start again.

Both Leclerc and Verstappen shouldn't have been on the podium today. It's doubly egregious when you consider what they gave Hamilton 10 seconds for. He locked up and bailed on the corner. Reminded me of the penalty Senna took at Suzuka during the 1st title fight with Prost. Just janky AF.

Hamilton didn't get a penalty for bailing on the corner, he effectively got a penalty for cutting across the grass and not using the (longer) paved escape road, which game him an advantage.

Bah. Could have made him relinquish a position. Which would've been more apt for a punishment. I'm not a Hamilton fan by any stretch but that was silly, 10 seconds? Day ruined.

Problem is Bearman overtook Max on that same move. I do wonder if Hamilton would have gotten away with it if he 'gave back the advantage' by dropping back to just in front of Bearman without giving up the position. At worst it probably would have made it just a 5 second penalty, but it's also possible that it would have meant Max got the penalty instead.
Max probably deserved a penalty for banging wheels with Lewis, forcing him off, and then cutting the corner to hold the overtake - though Lewis kinda forced him back off (which was fine)...but Max could argue that he didn't necessarily 'gain an advantage' by cutting the corner since Lewis ended up right behind him and it was the very next corner that Lewis did his even bigger cut. I think the other problem is that Lewis probably could have made the corner even with the lock up, but chose not to.
Sooo much going on there. Breaking it down like that I think maybe there's no action at all if Lewis slows up a bit. It seemed like he was way off down the road, but he was only really 0.8s in front of Bearman when timing sorted itself out (and I wonder if Lewis actually did slow up a bit), but then a a few seconds later it was full 2s gap once Bearman/Max's squabble resolved (so in the end I don't think it's wrong to say that Lewis gained a significant lasting advantage out of the whole deal)

Just watched Chandok analyze this on the Sky Pad, and he showed from Hamilton's oboard that Hamilton didn't let up at all to let the rest catch up; his theory is also that had Hamilton slowed down a bit, there would have been less or no penalty.

I think Lewis would have been fine if he backed up to the pack but he definately gained advantage cutting the grass.
Max should have been penalized somewhere, his aggressive driving puts him in these spots all the time and it's just bs. That whole first lap was garbage. It was like everybody lost their heads.
I am actually glad there was a VSC. Max was too far behind Leclerc going into the area where they were waiving yellow for Sainz but came out right on his wing, it looked like Lec slowed down and Max didn't. I don't think it would have been fair for them to continue like that. I don't know if Lec could have held him off it it had gone green all the way but he definately wasn't going to after the yellow flag.
