Vancouver blanketed by forest fire smoke. Might be a factor.

USA gigantic favourites in Proline betting.

USA 1.55 vs JPN 4.50

Leroux hasn't hardly played for the U.S. in the tourney. Canada could have badly used her.

Sad..

US have a stupendously deep team. Probably the deepest team ever fielded at a WWC. Poor tactical decisions is the only reason they haven't handily beat everybody so far, IMO.

So has this more or less been a successful event, despite the turf controversy?

Success. Higher attendance per match than the last world Cup in Germany (which had larger venues), and Canada is certainly not a soccer country compared to Germany. To be fair, our numbers have been skewed by tickets given away and doubleheader tickets where people go to only one game, but ehh... numbers are numbers.

Turf has been a minor issue and has somewhat reduced the quality of play, but most important is that it hasn't really caused any major injuries.

Nice to see, on the US Holiday weekend, for their team to be wearing the traditional colors of black, white, and "volt".

Inches away by a couple Japanese defenders on the first one (near post, then the one covering the shooter and the shot goes through the legs of another). The second was just firedrill defending.

Also, sad to see the few seconds I clicked into the Fox Pregame, that Alexi Lalas said that Hope Solo needed to have a big game, and if she did, that may wipe away some of her off field issues (ie being a domestic abuser and bully which USA soccer has turned a blind eye to).

Wildly successful off the field in terms of ratings and more nations taking an interest.
