Read the tweets from the trial. Hard to think this was just some elaborate ploy.

I know. I agree, it's just frustrating to see another gruesome murder trail that's going to be chalked up to Insanity and all the debate that comes with it.

Really sad there were so many signs, and his parents even thought about stepping in. That has to weigh heavily on them.

hard to imagine what the families will have to endure as they listen to details thru this trial.
I stopped reading after that ominous number was mentioned

#### this guy. People are right, it's really hard to swallow the insanity defense when it's people you know.

Man, those are hard to read.
I have a slight connection to one of the parents and seeing what they have been through these last two years has been unfathomable. I can't even imagine what it would be like to sit through this trial after everything.

From the Sun- -
Friends and family sobbed and gasped with horror Monday as they heard graphic details about how five young people at a house party were slain by a man who believed he was killing Medusas and werewolves for the son of God.

Fit to stand trail apparently, but barrelling towards insanity defence. Not shocked.

Two years later and it's still incredibly saddening to think about what happened there.
This guy sounds insane but I just can't feel any sort of sympathy. Max sentence and I hope he never sees the light of day.

That's not surprising, the human body can practically go into superman mode with enough adrenaline and blood flow. He was probably already amped up from the events before his police interaction.

The most telling detail is he didn't show any fear of the police dog as it attacked him. That would be instinctive for anyone in his right mind.

Obviously hard to stomach when it is people you know, but unless we see other evidence refuting this early testimony, a not guilty by reason of insanity verdict seems very likely and appropriate .

The unsealed documents detailed how de Grood, the son of a high-ranking Calgary police officer, was "a good boy, kind and compassionate" until his personality began to change about a month before the stabbings.
|
As a parent of young children, this is the part that scares me the most. A otherwise bright and "normal" child snaps in a short period of time.
My kids will obviously have days where they're acting differently but how long before I react or intervene? What do I do then?

From an article on the case:
"The sergeant, seeing de Grood wasn’t armed, didn’t fire and sidestepped a punch from the suspect."
Crazy guy, bloody, charges at cop. Cop chooses to fight, not to shoot.
Promote this guy. And whoever trained him. He has a good head on his shoulders and has a temperament that helps build a solid, respected police force. He could have fired, and I'm sure some think it would be better if he did, but I have to respect the choice he made. With limited information on hand he made the best choice.
Also, what an awful crime. But this guy is clearly insane. Awful situation.
