Absolutely. And that's what I mean. There's a lot you can say about competing views on this subject, but I never would've quite understood the logic used for the "other side" if guys like yourself didn't post. I fundamentally disagree with the logic you're using to justify your position, but at least I can see how you're coming to your conclusions.

Well the people who came here and gave you the 2nd Amendment did ok out there with a lot less. I'm sure you guys can survive without using heavy artillery for hunting.

Again, explain to me why the government shouldn't have a list of what guns you own? The government knows how many/what vehicle(s) people own, why not do the same with guns? Outside of fear-mongering "they're gonna take our guns!" I cannot see any reason why a registry is a bad idea.
If you obtain guns legally, and use them legally, a registry isn't going to affect you.

Not just the guns but the ammo and clips should be tracked as well. I kind of get guns but I see no reason why anyone would need rounds upon rounds of ammo with multiple clips unless you plan on doing something in great quantity and as fast as possible.

Because every time a government has had people to registered guns only used it to confiscate them shortly after

This is simply not true.
edit - No judgement here, just don't agree with this statement.

I reload all my own ammo, I buy the powder and bullets and prep cases. Mostly because my ammo is better than anything I can get on the market and it takes some math on powder/bullet seating ect to get the perfect round.
I probably have close to 450 rounds of 223 loaded up right now in different weight bullets and powder and different uses like deer, hog, yote
I have a couple hundred rounds of .45 acp just ball ammo for target and 350 rounds of 9mm ball ammo for target.
The reason why a lot people have "stockpiles" of ammo is because most don't shoot a box of ammo at the range and go home. Instead of buying $200 in ammo at one time they buy it over periods.

Again, outside of fear-mongering "they're gonna take our guns!" I need a good reason why a registry isn't a given when dealing with weapons capable of exerting deadly force on another human being.

That's fine that you feel that way. Just show me a government that hasn't.

Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it. I don't believe it's fear mongering, I feel it's an honest statement and holds water.

Germany and Austria have before.. If I'm not mistaken in Germany the only way you can have a gun is to be part of gun club and the rifle has to stay at said club.
That's like saying, Well you can own a house, just cant live in it....
Same thing goes for Canada, cant the government just come to your house at any moment and check your safe?

Well are you interested in examples of countries that are doing successful gun registries now? Or do you want examples that will satisfy impossible criteria.
Basically what that argument comes down to, for a lot of people, is "The Nazi's took the guns, and then killed all the Jews". There's no bridging that logic chasm.

It's more like saying, We only want you to use these extremely dangerous items in controlled environments.

I'm quite sorry that you think that you can blame mass murders on pharmaceutical medications rather than the fact that there are too many gun deaths in the country and a prominent mindset that the only way to counter the problem is to have more guns. You then say that people with mental health issues (who for some reason have access to weapons) suffer from... not having enough hugs. Your opinions frankly are similar to Alex Jones and his band of merry idiots who are content on pointing their fingers at the government for all problems.
Maybe it is a time to examine the consitution and using a text from 1789 in order to justify current decision making practices.

sure, you can own that Corvette, but you have to go to the race track to drive it and it has to be stored there.

I'm not going to pretend to know that much about our gun registry, but I'm pretty darn sure the government can't just stroll into your house and look in your safe, lol.

And you could very well be wrong about that. The RCMP just changed the classification of a once unrestricted firearm to prohibited overnight without any official announcement. Guess how they are going to try to track down the owners of this particular rifle?
From the reminants of the long gun registry.
