I hear 5th Avenue Place (Esso Plaza) is demolishing the outdoor pool in addition to the +15 level. The fast food tenants told me they may be evicted in the near future as Brookfield rebuilds the whole area.
Does anybody else have info on this? Interesting with the timing of Imperial moving out.

I can confirm that the pool/plaza area has been demolished and under construction since the fall. I noticed one entrance from the +15 to the plaza area has been boarded off in the past week or so but figured it was part of the renos. No clue about the food court, however - this is just my observations passing through (I work in an adjacent building)

I've heard they want to add more stores into fifth avenue place (where the pool was) and that the subway, and the other food court places along that hallway will move to the spots east that have been closed for a while (used to be jugo juice and a sandwich place).

Everything LaCaille does is pretty tacky. Just look at the giant stucco "chateau" at the center of the second picture.
Sometimes you just have to say thanks but no thanks.

From the looks of it, at least 3 different people at the same time.

I think the amalgamation look is pretty unique and cool. For the location it is in downtown I think it's a great addition and great look.
As for LaCaille stuff. Their stuff might be conservative looking but it's great quality from what I've seen. And sometimes that trumps plain looks when you're thinking about calling someplace "home"

It has a New York feel to it. Three of them.

It has no identity. It's trying to be too much at once.
In my opinion, it lacks elegance and sophistication - the very characteristics of the building its name is trying to suggest.

I think it looks great!!
In a time when everything is being rounded and covered with curtain wall glass, a classic looking tower with sharp edges and strong brick/concrete exterior elements will look like a nice contrast.
The slightly upward curved side, give just enough modern, glass tower play on the linear lines everywhere else.

It would be immediately improved if they removed the ridiculous historicist hotel portion at the bottom.

I preferred the previous version, which the SSP geeks generally hated.
Although it seems to have improved again from when it was this:

Which one? The one in the direct middle, or the one with the black roof? Because I like the building with the black roof and would love to live at the top of that.
