Death toll apparently already in the hundreds in Lee County following the storm.

Cold front moving thru Southern Alberta this evening (Oct 10). Some wind warnings northeast of Calgary for up to 100km/h winds. Calgary can expect up to 90km/h gusts which is still pretty strong.

Yesterday was absolutely spectacular, I don’t recall a day in mid October quite this nice (although I’m sure it’s probably not an anomaly). Went out to Banff , Lake Minnewanka and then into town for a beer. Not a breath of wind or a cloud in the sky, it was stunning. The lake was like glass and sitting on a patio late afternoon in a short sleeve shirt and not being chilled in the slightest was fantastic.

but now that thanksgiving is over, we’re settled into a fall routine, golf season is over, and crops are mostly off it can begin raining , and raining a lot. Boy do we need moisture.

^^^ In the past 100 days, Vancouver has had less than 1/3rd of the rain fail as Las Vegas, which is in the Mohave Desert.

The creek by where I live is literally bone dry and salmon have been trying to skip their way further upstream and just die because there is no where to go. It's just really sad and the ecological impacts are going to be massive. And my landlord still insists that I water her precious lawn every day. The forecast is calling for 27C over the weekend. As much as I like warm weather, it is really unsettling when the leaves are falling, the days are short, and the weather is still flirting with 30C temperatures.

I saw in the news that Alaska cancelled the crab harvesting this year for the first time ever. Apparently 1 million crabs just did not spawn this year, and of course climate change is the major suspect.

I dunno, this summer and fall has been so gorgeous in Calgary (basically what most more-temperate cities get normally for fall) Golfing well into mid-October without snow closures? I'd almost say the impending climate doom is worth it.

Especially if it’s Vancouverites that bear the brunt of the devastation.

Yeah, there's been many saying this is the best summer in so long in Calgary, but you need the rain. 90% of wetlands in the Calgary area were dried up by late July. The average person doesn't see or understand the ecological impact of things like that, though. Just "it was nice again in the evening and no rain. Rain suuuuuuckkss, hot rules!!!!!".

Apparently 100's of thousands dead on the dry river banks, we won't see the effect for a couple of years but it will be a huge problem.

They speculate that they just headed further north to colder and deeper waters.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/clima...limate-change/

Even with a billion crabs Alaska only makes up 6% of the worldwide catch. That's alotta crabs!

So I'm just bumping this because based on the forecast it appears that we are about to get a one day Autumn. It's tomorrow. 25 yesterday, 23 today, 13 tomorrow and Friday is winter and stays that way.

That's pretty impressive.
