The Flames have done everything to suck next season and I believe in Conroy that he’s going to get this thing turned around.
My point isn’t even necessarily about Bennett vs Reinhart, it’s about being as bad as possible so we end up with the best players available. We’re in a Canadian market and patience ultimately wears thin, so might as go into war with the MacKinnon’s and McDavid’s of the world before the organization quickly pivots to signing UFAs and spending to the cap again. I think 30+ years of being the most mediocre organization in the NHL is enough, time to try something different and that includes our attitudes towards rebuilding or nothing will ever change.

They are rebuilding.

Look at that roster. They know exactly what they are doing. We are going to get smoked most nights.

I would heavily prefer retaining 50% then shipping the skater out for an asset right away instead of blocking our kids out of a roster spot and winning more games.

They really can't ship out any significant skaters, with or without retention, unless they take contracts back. The team is only slightly over the floor now.

Craig is still very busy and teams are starting to return from summer break, however real activity will probably pick up after August long weekend as teams prepare for camp and the start of the season.

There is still a chance that Oliver will be given the opportunity to come to Calgary on a low risk-low reward contract however there is some bad blood between Craig and the Agent JPB… I’ve heard he has a standing offer in Sweden to get his game back on track and a few teams considering PTO. I anticipate as we get closer to the start of the season he will find a home in the NHL. Injuries happen all the time in camp.

A few teams have ask the flames to broker cap however our retention spots are of high value, the ownership doesn’t want to hold dead cap long term but the flames also have players who they may retain on in the futures trades. I fully anticipate these slots will be used over the coming season.

Zayne will receive a lot of opportunity in camp. We all know he’s highly skilled and dynamic. Flames are not worried if he fully earns a spot. I’m not sure if he will turn pro this year but it wouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s defensive warts can be worked on and Huska has been doing that with players his entire career.

Some words from a euro scout for a different team says that Honzek is looking more like a man and his on ice sessions are at a different level. He’s think he will pop this season and will slowly become a full time NHL before the start of 25-26. Thinks some injuries have been difficult on his game and mental game but he’s on track. Pospisil and him are very close and will room together this year in Calgary.

Flames have some hope for Jakob this year, they’ve left some roster spots open during the summer to motivate the kids. Jakob has put on about 10-15 pounds this off season already.

Our goaltending will be fluid this year and the flames are not afraid to put Dan on waivers if he isn’t ready or performing. It’s anticipated that Barbs will have a lot more of a mentorship role for Wolf and Bunny Cooley. Something he did a lot in his career. Typically he doesn’t say much during games but I think this will change now that Markstrom is gone.

Mangiapane did ask for a trade at the during the season. Didn’t feel comfortable in the organization after his buddies left him.

More to come… the rumour mill is quiet right now but as mentioned conroy is listening…

If that's true, that is amazing for a player his height. My biggest knock on him is that he gets out muscled and pushed around too much. Adding 10-15 pounds of muscle would sure help.

Wouldn't expect much for a bit. Rhett mentioned on BB yesterday that Conroy was back in NY taking some time off

I saw a pic of Honzek and Pospisil working out, and Honzek looked jacked.

Just getting back, no smoke is nice.

As I said last week Craig’s #1 priority was getting Wolf signed and it looks like that has happened right around what was rumoured. Also sounds like both sides got what they wanted in the structuring of 1-way vs 2-way which is great.

Now that Wolf’s done, Craig’s indeed on a much needed vacation thought I’ve heard he’s been looking at a few cap brokered deals, nothing roster wise for Calgary but more so money absorbed for picks.

I do think Calgary is done for now, I think we roll into camp with what we have unless something comes out of no where trade wise. I’ve been told they want to keep 2 spots open for young guys and have a very competitive main camp.

I’ll echo on the Parekh front from what Sec said, the Flames very much hope to see him make it. Fun fact, Parekh has taken only 1 week off this summer so far, the rest spent training for both Hockey Canada and then camps with Calgary. He’s determined to show the Flames he’s ready for the big show, his dedication and drive is unreal.

I see no reason to rush Parekh to the NHL and letting him have another year to dominate junior and develop more physically would be ideal. This season the Flames fans can be excited for the direction and some of the younger guys getting longer looks but hopefully a top 3 pick is what is earned and the following season we see the top pick from 25 and Parekh make their debuts to get really excited.

Which kids are we bringing up that weren’t signed in the offseason or brought in or up at the end of last season. You mean all of the ones that are fully ready?

I do think by the look of the roster that there will be opportunities for defensemen. But we have a lot of forwards on the roster already and I didn’t see any obvious cantidates ready for a spot from the wranglers last year.

But you never know I guess

That’s good because he was undersized last year. Seemed to be his Achilles heel.

Pumped to hear about Honzek. I’m still hopeful.
I hope Parekh just dominates the OHL offensively and defensively this year. No reason to rush him….. we don’t have room.

Weegar-Andersson-Bahl-Bean- Miromanov are locks….then you have Pachal, Hanley, Solovyov, Kuznetsov, Grushnikov, and others fighting for that last spot…..

I agree. I’m a huge proponent of letting the youngsters stew for at least a year. There are few kids who are ready mentally and/or physically at age 18 to make the NHL.

To be honest. I do wonder how Monahan and Bennett would’ve done had they not made the jump right away. Monahan forced our hand but I’m still wondering how the other elements of his game would’ve developed. Bennett was a different story due to his injury/surgery then having a good playoffs. Just what ifs….

Parekh can clearly use another year for developing his all around game and gaining 10 lbs of “muscle”.

Certainly muscular but I'm not sure he's jacked. Needs another 15-20 lbs to be in jacked territory. He's so damn lanky lol!
