Getting older isn’t for the faint of heart. But it is the goal.
I’m old, but have never been happier. Found my career (video games) late 20’s, married mid thirties, kids late 30’s, first time home ownership in late 40’s.
Just want to advance it’s not “all decline” over 40. You can keep growing with luck, work, and a positive attitude.
I might be slow like ox. But I’m smart. Like tractor.

Don't feel like you need to rush on the career thing, I wasted most of my 20's in Oil and Gas, then spent a few years trying out different things, and didn't find something I truly enjoy doing and can take pride in until a few years ago

I think everyone has their own built-in clock. When the time is right for you, my suggestion would be to find out what you really like doing, do it to the absolute best of your ability, and find, or create a market for your skills. As society is changing so fast these days, I think it's important to plan it so that your skills are something that will be needed by others, as far into the future as you can see.
I think we often learn who we really are in our work, and as above, having the pride in what we do is important.

I learned so many useful skills by bouncing around to different jobs in my late teens and early twenties. You also learn so much about various job markets. Then I picked something in my late twenties to do and it’s working for me as I designed and wanted. And I’m already working on the next plan that I’ll do for work from ~50-65ish.
I had so much unnecessary “career anxiety” in highschool and afterwards when I had no clue what I wanted but felt like I had to know.

Large groups on the pathways RGMG. If you decide you need to ride around the reservoir with 6 or 7 other people, extend a courtesy by splitting up and leaving a gap between groups so others can get around you. Or alternatively, just carry on in one long, unbroken convoy that causes near collisions and frustration among other users. After all, this is your day.

Do you know why the 'walking stick' was invented?
It was to assist people rambling about as most would think....it was invented for the bicycle wheel.

I think that might be common these days, with so much information and choices one can make, along with the changes in society brought on by technology, and the pressure to succeed as others had done in the past.

There is much more support and acceptance of getting into trades than I experienced in high school. Which is great, because it’s the ####.

In recent years I've overcome my annoyance with individual cyclists. It harms no one. Even pairs of them, depending on where.
When they insist on riding as one giant cluster that protrudes well beyond what would be considered reasonable with no care just because they're in a pack, that's when they become spandex wearing dickheads.
When it comes to space, motorbike gangs are more sensible and aware.
Can't imagine them eating up the whole reservoir pathway. That deserves a log in the spokes.

No I don't think it is.
My son played rugby with a few boys that have gone straight into the trades (Electrician & Mechanic) from high school, in fact one started his journey while still in school.
I think what holds true is those kids that don't know what they want to do are told to go to University and take different classes to find out what they like.

That's interesting. I guess as a fellow Commonwealth nation we are pretty similar in a lot of ways, and obviously for STEM careers you need a degree, and will need one forever probably. But I'm all for more trade schools/less formal education.

Trades seem like a good career choice for young people right now. AI isn’t taking away any plumbing jobs any time soon.

I would say there are only two short comings of working in the trades
1. university is a excellent way to broaden your horizons, it's not impossible to do that in the trades, but you have to actively seek it, especially if you work in O and G.
2. you can't spam Calgary puck all day.

You don’t think tradespeople have phones? I don’t mean rotary phones, I mean the all-encompassing miracle phones that can keep your mind off your work every single minute.

It's a lot easier to closer a tab or fake that a spreadsheet is done, than to fake that a leaky pipe has been fixed and the water turned back on.

As someone who rides a bike regularly, I would never ride around the reservoir, way too many people, we don't want to be near pedestrians either.
I don't think people understand that a group of cyclists needs to ride 2 abreast on the highway, usually you're going into the wind and the person on the front needs to rotate off the front.
I've never understood why people get so upset, we are still completely on the shoulder and out of traffic whether one or two abreast and if there isn't a wide enough shoulder the road is super quiet 99/100 times. Get buzzed by a car on most rides, refuse to cross the yellow line on an empty road as people need to prove a point. Not sure if people would maintain their same attitude if they hit a cyclist and had to explain to the cyclists loved ones that there was nothing they could do.

How is it that 2 non-business days after I cancel my compromised credit card, multiple companies with auto payment freak the #### out and start spamming me with communications for payment? #### you AI bots. Take a break on the long weekend!
I guess I have to endure this for the 5-8 business days until I receive my replacement card.

I always make sure to pass by cyclists on the highway with at least 1.5 metres. I assumed that shooting past them 2-3 feet away is loud, alarming and a vehicle might create an airwall/gust of wind that could destabilize their ride. I recall being that close to cars on the Golden Gate Bridge and I hated every second of it.
I also don't understand tail gating. Flash headlights, sure. Tailgating, no. Especially stupids that tail gate motorcyles. I always give them a solid 2 car lengths on the highway in case something happens and when I pass by them, I pass going approximately the same speed as them for a good 5-8 seconds (driving side by side to them slowly) and resume a faster speed after I get around half a car length in front of them.
On a side note, what does a motorcyclist pointing at the ground/road mean? I looked it up and it said it was a motorcycle greeting to motorcyclists going the other direction, but I've seen it without other motorcycles around and typically only when I am close to the bike.
