You lost here, I'm not saying Andersson is lying. He himself said "the distraction comes from the outside, not from the inside". He also mentioned that the door is "never closed on an extension , and he loved every second of it". He doesn't strike me like a guy that feels like he's being run out of town. I mean even the "I've read all season how much I suck" was him elaborating on why he probably shouldn't sign an extension right away. He proceeded to elaborate "the thing that bothers you is the fake information that comes out. I saw some reports that said I would only sign with one team, and this and that. It's the furthest from the truth." I think this confirms he doesn't really care about people saying "he sucks".
Listen to Andersson and watch him instead of just reading what he said. I honestly don't get any run out of town vibes from this interview.
I'm not talking about just Andersson. Many palyers have commented on this kind of stuff.
WTF does "you lost here" mean anyway? This isn't a contest.
I have always been a fan of Rasmus and still am. I have no doubt if he is healthy he is going to have a good season. He played on a fractured femur for two months last year, he has earned some more respect around here. Been a great professional and I have no doubt he will continue to be. He has a lot to prove this year, my feeling is he will perform well and we all will be sad when he's gone.

It means I wasn't sure what you were referring to. As in, I didn't in any place mention players lying. That's why I wasn't sure where it was coming from.
The Andersson comments strike me as him using it for motivation and fuel to have a better start to the season. That's all I'm saying.

You pretty much said that players don't care about this stuff. I've mentioned before that lots have said they did.

You asked for my opinion where I said: "I'm sure they notice, but I don't think they care".
Now, yes, I'm sure some players care about what's written about them in social media, but my opinion is that the vast majority of them don't. I'm not accusing anyone of lying. Again in my opinion, Andersson fits that vast majority.
Anyway, I'm glad we understand eachother now, so we don't have to derail this thread.
If Anderssons heard he sucks from social media. Then he may have been looking at his stat line or follows Mike Commrie who does his wonderful Masters green jacket spoof about the player with the worst +/- .
Truth be told and I'm sure many teams will agree, he doesn't suck, he had a rough season in which it was a pretty significant transition for the organization on the ice.
He also knows full well there's a player coming to take his job and if things go the way everyone (or almost everyone) thinks it's going, Anderssons the odd man out regardless.
No, Anderssons a good player who will get a good return, he's just been using fan opinion to motivate himself. It's fine really.
I like his candid nature. And his honesty.

An NHL player declining a guaranteed $128MM because of hopes / dreams it could be $18-$19MM per year instead of $16mm depending on whatever some other guy does- and risking it all if injured- is absolutely insane to me.

Such a bad decision IMO.
Yep, but I think this is his way of asking or forcing his way out of Minnesota.
Would he take that money in another market? New York, Vegas etc if it were available? You bet he would. And one day it will be. So thats the plan I assume. I don't think it has anything to do with waiting for McDavid.

This is likely more I don't want to sign in Minny than the money.
They likely will trade him if they can't sign him, so he'll get his money from another team likely. Maybe even less money.
Rasmus is a class act, you cant blame the guy at all and should not run him out of town he's been more than great for CGY and I know I'm thankful for what he's done here.
He speaks his mind, which is what we all routinely ask for and doesn't speak in those hockey metaphor's we all hate to listen to. Cant blame the guy for how he's feeling, he's played out his contract in its entirety and wants to move on and that's his choice.

Apples and oranges. I am not in a fan service business.
Why would you think athletes don't care about what fans think? What would the reaction be if Rasmus said "I don't care what fans think of me?"
People want some sort of licence to say whatever they want about players, coaches, etc without any negative implication. Sorry, but players are people and if they read that their own fans hate them, it's going to impact at least some of them.
Once you’re engaged on social media, you’re talking about tens of thousands of fans. Of course some will be critical. If you’re in the public eye at all - an entertainer, actor, athlete - you’re going to hear negative stuff about you. It’s inseparable from why you get paid truckloads of money; if loads of people care about what you do, some will be critical. If you want anonymity, working in the loading dock at Best Buy is a safe bet.
Where it crosses the line is when people make threats and vicious personal attacks. There’s no evidence Andersson has been subject to that. He’s just peeved that some fans think he isn’t as good as he thinks he is and he should be traded. That’s 100 per cent unavoidable as a professional athlete, and getting wound up about it is pointless. It’s like members of Maroon 5 getting bent out of shape on learning some fans don’t like their latest album.
But as others have said, I doubt he’s genuinely upset anyway. He’s just doing the same thing players who don’t get invited to Olympic rosters do, which is use a negative appraisal to motivate themselves.

Regardless of his contract status, IMO Andersson is and has always been a class act and a great leader for the Flames. It's very unfortunate that his age and contract status don't align well with the Flames' contention window. I will really miss him if he does eventually part ways with the Flames.

Nah, it wasn't someone just pointing out his +/- as a stat and a factor in evaluation, it was some sort of snarky cold weather joke. Basically it was that poster's name for him. That was repeated over and over.
“Johnny Makarov” who likes to harp on players.. haven’t seen him much lately actually.

The fans that matter are the ones that buy tickets and merch. He’s never been booed in our stadium. So he must be referring to the social media and message board people, and yeah I don’t think he needs to care one bit about that group. No, it doesn’t serve him to say that out loud, but neither does he have to bring that up - no one else in the scrum did.
People can say what they want, but just as you would ignore a dumb take on this board so should he. He must have found a dark corner of the net to find anyone saying they ‘hate’ him. He’s a fiery guy and he is holding on to this idea of detractors in the fanbase for kindling - that’s what I think.

He’s most certainly within his rights, I don’t think anyone is saying otherwise. However, complaining about fans perceive him and using it as an excuse as to why you don’t want to stay is not the reason he’s leaving. You can’t expect to be a famous athlete in a town that thrives on that sport and not receive criticism; it’s just the way it works.
