RNC is always such a rank amateur convention compared to the DNC. I am trying to remember if they had any memorable speeches other than Giuliani who always makes you feel good with the crazy uncle vibe he gives off. They have a tougher hand with their heartless policies, but they should be able to do a better job then they do.

In the lifetime of anyone alive right now, and taking into account societal progress, yes. It's not even particularly close. He's the worst nominee of either party. Unlikeable, unqualified, ignorant and lacking in anything even resembling judgment, a bully, a narcissist, out of touch with the people and in it for himself. He has no redeeming qualities at all as a candidate.

She's getting better the longer the speech goes. Less stiff, more natural.

How else are you supposed to know how amazing he is if he isn't yelling it at you?

Yeah I agree. She's settled in. I think she's gained a lot of momentum off the Trump bashing parts. Beating him up is what she's best at. Which is probably for the best. This whole election is going to be a festival of going negative against your opponent. By the time November rolls around they'll probably both have favourables in the 20's.

It used to be the opposite. Go back and watch RNC conventions from 2004 back. They were excellent. Heck pull up Arnold's 2004 speech.

The Iraq war was his personal vendetta and got thousands of Americans killed and tens of thousands of Iraqis killed, all for no good reason.
I don't know if he directly caused the greatest economic collapse in history, but he sure didn't do anything to stop it.
Pretty hard to find positives in anything else he did, when you consider those 2 things.

Politically it'd be hard to outdo Goldwater... but in regards to his suitability for the job I'd say yes.

The difference is not huge but quite noticable when you compare them side to side, especially when they are speaking at lower volumes.
Michelle is also quite a bit younger.
As people get older their voices lose volume, endurance and start to become thinner and shakier. All that contributes to various unpleasant effects when you address a crowd.
Men have it easier as they generally have lower and louder voices to begin with. (Plus tremor in the voice is considered sexy for men, while for women a soft voice is considered sexier.)

About 58 minutes. The first half could've been cut down a fair bit I think. Altogether, the anti-Trump stuff was the strongest material, there were a couple of other highlights on policy wonky stuff, the rest was pretty much just okay.
What was the card trick they were trying to get them to do? Seems to have failed miserably. Oh I see, it spells... something. Can't tell what.

Watching the PBS coverage of the DNC, as soon as Hillary finished her speech, and they cut to a girl in the crowd, probably 8 years old or so, cheering her heart out for the first female Presidential nominee, and I don't care how "naive" it makes me, that was an absolutely beautiful moment.
I think she absolutely nailed that. She isn't the orator that Obama is, nor as natural as Bill is, but she did what needed to be done. She was logical and articulate, she hit all the points she needed to, there was humor and heart. It wasn't perfect, but she outlined everything she had to.

No child left behind has created a fantastic data set to study educational progress and what works and what doesn't. He tried to fix immigration but was blocked. His opposition to funding stem cell research from aborted fetuses led to research on how to create non embryonic stem cells from other sources which was successful. His initial response to 9/11 was good. He fixed the mess of the emergency response system post Katrina.
He's certainly not as bad as he is made out to be.

I think it was bad intel and paranoia over another 9/11 attack if he didnt act on it. Yes it was the wrong decision but I did understand at that time.

It occurs to me she's spent so much time campaigning (or at least, we've spent so much time watching her campaigning) that we really only know campaign Hillary.
It'll be interesting to see how she transitions away from speeches and crowd pleasing to debating and press conferences. It'll probably result in some quieting of her critics, or at least critics of her delivery.
