Lost to Pittsburgh 1-3, playoff odds down 2.2 to 3.8%

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/W.../Edmonton.html

If they could play .500 hockey the rest of the way, they will likely only finish 26th.

I frankly can’t see any GM in the league doing anything that might help the Oilers. Sucks to be the Oilers lol

I'd make them pay to get the salary off the books. Talbot plus a conditional pick of some sort for Elliott.

Additionally, some teams may panic and realize they can have a proven depth defenseman at a minimal price. I am sure he would waive his NMC to play elsewhere too.

There are scenarios that can play out where Sekera gets moved. I stand by that.
Sekera has played 36 games since the end of the 2016-17 season, and is returning from a SECOND serious leg injury in that time. He has not been a top-four defenseman for two years, and carries two more years on his contract. Any scenario which sees him moved seems improbable to mw.

Agreed, as per my first post on this topic. You can move Sekera, but you need to add something to make it worthwhile. Nobody is looking at Sekera as a legitimate top 4 that can jump in and be a difference maker for the playoffs. Considering that contract for another 2 years, he would need a decent incentive to take him on, especially when he has played zero games this season and is coming back from his second major leg surgery in two seasons.

Coilers are screwed.

The only factor in favour of moving him is that GMs sometimes get silly at the deadline, especially if they miss on another targeted D.

I'd sure make any trade conditional on a physical, especially when the Oilers are begging the league for more injury time.

If Sekera gets traded I hope its to a team that we're playing against in the playoffs.

He is lipstick on a pig. I have no hate for Sekera but he hasnt been good for a long while.

We all know that they are probably gonna tank and get 1st overall again. I’m sure hall and everyone else has heard the same bull shot over the years.

A few years ago when the Oilers were in the bottom of the standings, I can't remember if it was Lowe or Mactavish that said they had a master plan. I believe it was a reference to going after high draft picks. At work now but will try find the quote.

You're just going to have to be more specific than that.

Its the Oilers.

The funny thing is that even if they did that, they'll still have to make another move to be cap compliant because they can't bury all of Sekera's salary.

Once Sekera is cleared to return, they're $1.145 million over the cap. The maximum amount that can be buried in the AHL on any one contract is $1.025 million.

Failure is a springboard to success?

Talk today is that the Coilers and Flyers are talking about a deal around Talbot for Elliott.

In Edmonton it’s a Please Move clause.

No one is trading for a 2 year injured 32 year old defenseman with 2 years left at 5.5.
