Houston tied the Mariners up in the 9th. Astros win helps us, not much, but it helps.
A Mariners win and they will be tied with the Tigers, both 3.0 back. Making it a little harder to whittle down the magic number.

#BlueJays reliever Joaquin Benoit appears to have suffered a significant injury to his left leg, was seen leaving on crutches.

Help, save, whatever.

So dumb..Sevrino clearly hit JD by accident. No reason to have Happ throw at the Yanks in retaliation. Now by the sounds of it the Jays have lost one of their better relievers. Karma's a bitch.

Baseball players are so embarrassing. Why even bother? Theres always some invisible force holding the angry combatants back from throwing a punch or really engaging.
Well other than Odor.

That's horrible. Absolute blow.
Combo of Liriano/Cecil/Biagini to fill that role in the playoffs I would imagine.

The mayhem in this game was all the Blue Jays fault.
Donaldson was barely hit in the elbow and it didn't seem intentional at all. That is not a reason to react and hit their next player. You miss with the first one, you don't throw the second one.
Blue Jays are a bit too emotional sometimes but I guess that's what makes them a good team. I don't like the ugly stuff, but thankfully both pitchers didn't aim for the head or anything like that.

Injury that worries me the most, is Devon Travis. Sure hope he has not re-injured his bad shoulder.

Donaldson has been thrown at intentionally before this season, and while last night was clearly and obviously an accident, I can only guess that Happ decided to send a message anyway. It was a dumb message to begin with, and even worse now that it has cost us Benoit.
This offence is still my greater concern. It, quite honestly, did not look good in the last three games of the series. That said, take two out of three from Baltimore, and we're almost certainly hosting the wild card game.

Torn calf for Benoit. Gibbons says it's too early to tell of Benoit if out for the year.
####. Over something that shouldn't have escalated to anything. Stupid brawl.

What is it with the Jays top relievers tearing a calf at the most important time of the year?
Last year Cecil was unhittable for about 4 months, the playoffs start and he tears his calf.
Now Benoit.

Baseball's propensity for fake tough guy crap is so annoying. And as mentioned besides the rare Odor, it's just jostling mostly.

Baseball is so ass backwards. Last year, Kansas was clearly the aggressor in the brawl with Toronto, yet Toronto suffered all the ejections/suspensions. Toronto was clear the aggressor last night and the Yankees are the ones that suffer all of the ejections/possible suspensions.

As if he isn't done for the year. That is a significant injury for anyone, let alone a pitcher.

What a stupid, pointless injury. The Jays did this to themselves and it's really disappointing.
Let's cross our fingers that Devon Travis' shoulder is ok.
EDIT: Looking at the lineup Barney is in at 2nd base.

I'm hoping it is for more than just post-season implications because his value is likely pretty high right now and he would be a great piece to move in the offseason.
I think it's quite evident he is not an every day 2nd baseman and he will be moved to the outfield by the Jays. His main value is he has a decent bat at 2nd base. He's a below average fielder, medium speed, has next to no power, and is starting to look to have injury problems.
People with offensive skills like Travis are hard to find at second base, but are not that hard to find in the outfield. If the Jays don't think he's going to be an every day 2nd basement, I think they should consider their options with Travis.

i saw it differently than a bunch of you. They hit JD, so Happ hits one of them (missing him the first time) warning goes on from the ump, pointless clearing of the benches ensues, it should be over. Thats how it has always worked.
Then the Yankee guy, who knew he was pretty much done for the night ( has never thrown more than 40 pitches in a MLB game is what I think I saw ) throws at Smoak, hitting him the second time and thats when the bigger melee happens and its because the Yankees kept it going. I thought the ump was going to toss him the pitch before he hit Smoak. After the first inside pitch, ump stepped out, mask was coming off and then he didnt toss him.

When it's clearly an accident you don't need to throw at their player, that's just dumb baseball.
I agree, Jays did this to themselves.

This. Happ should never have thrown anywhere near the Yankee hitter.
