I quite enjoyed the X929 interview, Roger said he'd pull no punches. She responded well to the casual joking nature at the beginning, but as the real questions hit she started getting worked up again. We need a mayor that can stay cool and collected in the face of so much scrutiny.

The thing Barb has going for her, is that she's by far the most charismatic of the 3 candidates. Charisma goes a long way in getting people to vote for you.
Nenshi has good ideas, but I actually really hate listening to him. McIver isn't much better...
Not 100% sure who I'll vote for yet, but it's not Barb.

Barb sounded like a newscaster in that interview, not the mayor of a major metropolis.
I honestly don't believe that she's able to comprehend the magnitude of what she's attempting to gain control of. Further, I don't think she would have the first clue of what to do if she did succeed in doing so.
Please, please understand that just because Ralph Klein started his political career after a stint with journalis, it does not mean Barb is automatically a parallel.

Watched the BT interview. Was expecting more of a blow-up TBQH.
I think she was trying to say that there were a lot of people emailing her and suggesting she run and that influenced her decision (but that it was her decision). She's just not a great speaker, unfortunately, and so you can understand why McCourt would ask the puppet question.
The other about her credentials is pretty reasonable too, but in the context of the interview it probably came across as negative to Higgins because of the previous questions...so she got on her high horse and defended her former campaign manager (which deflected from the actual question).
McCourt stoked the flames with his "I've irked you, haven't I?" which was plainly obvious to everybody watching but was a little bit like gloating.
Not sure what happened after with the arts community, but I would think some Higgins supporters will commend her for defending her manager who was unjustly attacked. Others will (rightly) point out that she didn't answer the question.
It was bad, but not terrible. Even if the guy was biased she should have used it as an opportunity to confront the arguments against her and she failed at doing that which doesn't speak strongly to her supposed leadership skills.
Edit: Nenshi hit a home run on his BT interview.
Edit2: really funny national post article

Sounds like Wayne Stewart has dropped and is supporting Nenshi, or is about to make that move.

Wow she definitely did nail the x92.9 interview. After listening to it, I have to say that I like Barb - her heart is in the right place. I don't want her as our mayor though.
"...aaaaand unfortunately we're out of time" on the first question. lol.
really great discussion about the airport tunnel as well.
Actually seriously, if you're wondering about Barb's non-existant policy...X929 got the scoop (seriously) - I don't think she used a single buzzword during the entire thing.
Holy , hard hitting about financing from developers at 3:30 in part 2 and then the lack of policy at 5:30.
Honestly. Everybody listen to this. Very impressed with X.

I liked Mr. Stewart from the get-go. He has some great ideas and if Mr. Nenshi does go on to become the city's next mayor, I'm glad there will be a place for Stewart to make a difference.

I've had the opportunity to meet Barb Higgins a few times and can attest to this, however, I don't think she's leveraged it well in her campaign. she too often comes off as shrill and rambling. The informal parts of the x92.9 interview were her best showing personality-wise. Her problem has been than when she is put on the defensive, she gets defensive and appears to take it personally. Compared to Nenshi and even McIver, she's just not great at handling negative lines of questioning.

Yeah definitely. After listening to that radio interview I think she's got great integrity but can't stand the political game.
At one point the X guy says something about the puppeteering and she says "well clearly you don't know me"
To me, that line sums up the problem with her entire campaign. Nobody knows you Barb.

And that is yet another reason why I don't think she's qualified. Besides the fact that she lacks a definitive platform, she just doesn't handle negative pressure well (from what I've seen anyways). How do you expect someone like that to lead the city? Is she going to get bent out of shape everytime someone says something negative to her? How is she going to effectively negotiate with the province or other parties if she's going to get this razzled?
At this point, I honestly see her as just a puppet to whomever is controlling the strings from behind the scenes. Call me paranoid, but that is kind of a scary thought IMO.

Apparently Barb Higgins took it out one the Arts Vote Calgary volunteers after the Breakfast TV Interview. NOT COOL!

There are tons of people at City hall today for the advance poll. It's been going all week and was relatively quiet but today there is a huge line.

I hope that Nenshi has had his GOTV machine running for the advance poll as well, and that the youth vote makes it to the polls this time around. Really if the advance vote numbers are indicative of the turnout then Monday could be very interesting in general.

Today is the last day for advance voting, and only at City Hall.

On the News last night they said approximately 22,000 people have advance voted up from 11,000 (last vote).

Voting is for people who think their vote matters and the system works. After 30+ years of being mislead I refuse to be made a fool of any longer. From now on the only way I'll vote is if some candidate is standing outside the polling station with a cold beer in his hand to give to me. Otherwise, from now on I refuse to ratify the whole sordid process by participating in it. Buy me beer or bugger off.
