It really felt like a two-parter, with the first being more along the lines of this season's episode 1 (but not nearly as dreadful) and the second part being old-school.
The line about hair-loss slayed me.

I kind of wish this show ended last season. It would have gone out on top. These first 3 episodes are embarrassing.

I'm still in denial with how bad the show is now...
This has to be the largest change in quality from season to season in TV history. It's really awful. It's a shame that it tarnished the legacy of the show.
I miss Dan Harmon.

Hindsight isn't always 20/20. I remember being pretty underwhelmed with a few episodes from season 3.
So far this season is pretty meh. But I wouldn't say that it is downright terrible.
I will still watch and judge the season as a whole.

Yeah season 3 was definately 50/50 for me.
So was half this season filmed before it was put on hiatus? Im confused with Chevy being in it still as I thought he dropped out before season 4 started filming. Haven't really been keeping up with the news.

He dropped out towards the end of filming. He'll be in most of the episodes.

You guys are such hipster ######s.
The 2nd episode was great and the third was decent. It isn't as bad as you guys make it out to be. No Harmon so the show must be bad, but that isn't the case. While I really didn't like the first episode, there were episodes that in the Harmon era were just as bad, if not worse. Last episode there were parts I really didn't like, but some parts that were really funny.
I was the biggest skeptic that this season would suck and it is no where near as bad as I would have thought.

I think this season has been decent so far. Nothing so far that will hit their top 5 episodes, but I quite enjoyed the last two episodes. Seems like a lot of people are way over the top in their histrionics. I really don't get people saying things like "they should have stopped after season 3". I'm thrilled that there's new episodes still coming out. Even if you don't like any of the content from season 4, it's not like putting new episodes out reduces the awesomeness of the old ones. I'm excited to see what happens.

I have not really enjoyed the first couple episodes so far. Some of the characters, especially Abed, just seem different. I'm not sure if I am going to keep watching or not.

It's almost as of Abed is growing as a character and becoming more normalized due to his integration into the study group.
I don't like it.
The outro of the last episode where we see Peirce's Inspector Spacetime vision and Abed says "I hate you". Funny? Yes. True to Abed's character? No. He should have gone blank and given his high pitches squeal with the rest of the study group (minus Pirece) going into crisis control.
The problem I think if the current people don't understand Abed's character. They aren't that far off the show's orginal vision, except for Abed.

Other than Parks and Rec and Portlandia, I can't think of another show that is as smart and funny as Community, even on its worst day. The drama here is interesting.

That's been the magic of the show. It's one of the most consistent shows and a sign of this was the fact that it took 4 seasons to find an episode that I can recall was universally decided as weak.
The major problem (and the reason I think we see such a huge split) is because of the universal appeal of the show before the 4th season. It could basically be whatever you wanted, raw slapstick aside. Now that the show is focusing in on individual elements, fans of a certain aspect aren't having as much fun and are therefore pinning it on the single largest variable change: Harmon
I'm certainly enjoying the show. The 2nd episode was heavily on the lines of jokes and meta humour, par for the course in the 3rd season while the last episode, while not overwhelmingly funny, went back to the show's early 1st season roots of being a hybrid comedy-drama show. Were they outlandishly good? No. I don't think Community (or most shows for that matter) will ever be as good as the 2nd season, which contained some of the better TV episodes I can recall. But to say the new season sucks outright it is giving off a Jekyll and Hyde routine is a little over the top.
