Leases are not transferable between countries as they have no way to enforce the lien or get the car back from you if you were to default. Generally there is a 90 day limit for the car to be out of the country when on lease.
With warranties it is best to check with the manufacturer directly. it varies widely. Honda Acura for instance cancel the warranty outright if you import the car to Canada, GM it is seamless, BMW and MB will transfer the warranty after they make you jump through a bunch of hoops and give them a bunch of money.

1) Do Canadian car dealers honor warranties/free-maintenance plans of vehicles purchased across the border. I know this may depend on the brand....I would most likely buy one of Audi/VW/BMW/Subaru/Mazda (and god knows I'd need service with the VW/Audi). Some of these brands offer some great covered-maintenance plans, which is a big draw for me and I wouldn't want to lose that.
2) I'd prefer to lease, but am not sure if it's possible to import a car still under a lease in a different country? My guess is no....

They seem to be going through the Wholesale Auctions at 14-16k

What is the value of this car?
1992 Buick Century Custom, driven only by an older couple so very low mileage: 121,000 km.
4-door, new tires, great shape, very clean
This is my father-in-law's car and he'd appreciate knowing what it's worth. Thanks.

Unfortunately that is a very tough call realistically it is worth whatever someone will pay for it on Kijiji etc. The car is 18 years old and is too old to really put a value on.
if you could find the right person maybe they would pay $2k for it. likely it is a $1000 car with a fresh safety/emission test etc.

Here is a question Mr. Car SalesMan.
A few months back I tried to purchase a 2008 Scion xB. It was from a used car dealership here in Victoria (Cars Unlimited - Owned by Jim Pattison). This was a 2 day process - Day 1 we took it out for a spin, liked it - made them a deal and they accepted my old car in as a trade in. They said there bank was closed, and it would be processed tomorrow. They went over my credit and said everything should be a go.
I call the next day - the salesman says everything is good to go, come pick up your car after work. I swing by and the Sales Manager wants to talk to us (a different dude from the previous night) and he says I got good news and bad news.
Bad news = The bank wouldnt approve me for the Scion as it is a USA import, and the bank wont finance me because of that.
Good news = They could approve me for a 2008 Nissan Versa - for the EXACT same money/payments/everything.
Why would there bank care what car I get if the payments and everything is the same. The sales manager was a complete d-bag about everything, and I told him the Versa is no bigger then the car I have now so I'm not interested.
The Scions just released in Canada this month anyways, so I can probably get a new one now - but it always bugged me that this never got approved.

I believe warraties will transfer if you are moving. Check with the individual dealer but this is not the same as running across the border and snagging a deal.
I'm sure with the dollar hitting par again we are goingto see another rash of cross border shopping so we'll hear more on this, but during the last run this topic came up a lot and the rules (from the manufacturers) aren't the same for moving. RIV doesn't care either way.

Sounds like a load of hooey. I think the Nissan Versa is made in the USA wouldnt that make it also a USA import? They probably had the car sold without informing the other sales monkey and the guy tried to save his a$$.

I thought that as well, but the Scion is still for sale, about 3 months after the fact.

Let me ask a manager - well go to hell then.
You wants to know about importing the cars? Simple answer: if you can't pay cash, it isn't worth it.

You do have to check on warranties. Some companies have different ownership structures depending on the country of sale. Some car companies have models available in one country and not the other and that can be an issue. Not to mention dealerships nowadays have their own warranties they throw in that will not be transferable.
When we moved down to the states we could not bring our Nissan X-trail down. The X-trail was never available in the states and Nissan US would not recognize the car or model and therefore would not/could not provide the proper documentation to satisfy the the DOT and EPA. We ended up using it as a trade in literally 10 days before the move for a Volvo XC90 (and still we had issues...had to replace the instrument panel because the DOT requires the US ABS symbol as opposed to the Canadian one). Like most things I would imagine that coming into the Canada will be easier than going down to the States.

Hey Tim, what would you say a 2001 Ford Expedition Eddy Bauer Edition is worth?
You work at a Benz dealership right? My mom is thinking of downsizing to a smaller 5 seater SUV. We were at the car show and one (of the many) vehicles she liked was the GLK. What is your opinion of that car? She is concerned about the maintenance cost as well, and the salesman there did a confusing job of explaining it. Thanks.

Any idea what a '04 rx8 gt with ~70,000 km is worth? Every option except the sat. radio.
Thanks!

I know it's still a while away but I don't suppose you know when the new 2012 Mercedes C-class (sedan and coupe) will be available in Canadian dealerships? It seems that the new models generally get rolled out in the summer but if you can provide anything more firm than that, it'd be appreciated.

I haven't, but I'm looking to.
1010tires is where I check because they're based out of Vancouver. Ordering from the US MAY be cheaper, but with the duty fees and such, I don't think it's worth it.

Thanks I'll check that out tomorrow. I've heard buying from the States is cheaper even with shipping, duty, etc. Especially with our strong dollar. Do you know what the American wheel sites are? I know there is a big one but I can't remember the name.

The 2 big ones from the US I know are Tire Rack and Discount Tire direct.
The same wheels I wanted from Tire Rack cost about $200 more shipped to my door and the same tires I wanted from discount tire direct cost about $100 more.

Really? Okay I'll price out my wheels at 1010. Shipping to Calgary was $240 on tire rack.
