No, that actually happened. And does happen. Booing has been part of opera forever.

Not only is OPs story clearly made up but no, audiences don’t boo opera performers. Not out of malice anyways. Maybe as part of the show but it isn’t common.
Nobody is going to boo a tenor who lost his voice. Nor would that tenor continue for a single second after losing his voice.
Montreal crowds can be savage but even that’s below them. They might riot on the way out and flip over a few police cars, but no way they’re booing.

Look, this was circa 2001 and my memory of the event is questionable at best. I think people would boo and drown him out only when his voice cracked, and the crowd progressively got more and more into the booing, which was initially just a few people.
However, it made the night pretty entertaining for me, watching the opera crowd in Montreal turn "ugly". I was shocked, of course, and also found it cringeworthy as I was understandably confused by the whole thing.
But anyway, in the end it was really quite fun, and while I'm sure that tenor had a really horrible experience that evening, it became a wild experience in the crowd. In some ways it was much better than listening in silent embarrassment to the singer's voice cracking.
I think I may have derailed the thread. My bad. I deserve some boos.

Lol... I think you misspoke - it's the "Six Million Dollar Man" and since that's what his salary is (basically - a little more)... it's so fitting.
I hope the best for him... Johnny too... I think Johnny will regret leaving Calgary career wise for some reason... I think Tkachuk will do well in Florida but I think as time will tell, we will win that trade hands down.

I've been to a Second Grade Christmas Pageant.

I once heard a composer get booed in Calgary. The CPO had performed the debut of his work and it was very, let’s say, modern. The orchestra played the last note of this weird thing and in the silence before the audience realized it was done one old coot yelled “booooo”. It was a bit awkward.

Remarkably successful for a modern composer. A lot of them don't have enough of an audience to get booed.
